Recently during a coaching a session, my client shared their ongoing frustration with not feeling like their career was going anywhere. Life can certainly have it's challenges. One perspective I totally live by and recommend is keeping things, situations as simple as possible. There is no value in complicating anything or making it hard. When we do, we can get stuck in the weeds. Ask yourself this, "At the end of the day what really matters?" Do that which is most important. When we complicate anything, we are just adding stress, frustration, to ourselves and others. Stop this. Here's one of my favourite high performance hacks: Don't be busy... ever. Language is powerful. We use words to communicate to others... and ourselves. They convey messages, exchanges ideas, concepts, thoughts, feelings. I love you. I hate you. Simple four letter variation that significantly changes the meaning of eight letters. Let me draw your attention now to one simple four letter word that is now intended to convey so much... yet conveys so little. Busy. What does the word busy mean to you? Do you use it a lot? If you hear it from someone else, what does it imply? Busy has become the 'success' word. If you're not 'busy', you're clearly not succeeding in life. I used to half-joke with people that to succeed in an office all you needed to do was walk fast, carry and clipboard, look stressed and drink lots of coffee (publicly). Now, all you need to do is say you're busy. But busy doing what exactly? How are you adding value? Are you living your best life or are you just filling in time? I ask my teenage kids to help and guess what, they're busy too. But busy scrolling social media is not 'busy'. Busy doing 'stuff' doesn't imply value to you or others. What is it that being 'busy' does? Why are you obsessed with being 'busy'? I challenge you, over the next week to eliminate the word 'busy' from your life. Eliminate it. It will be hard for some and very worthwhile. Replace it if you must with words that communicates what value you're adding to your life and the lives of others. "I would love to Troy but I'm too busy" "I would love to Troy but I've just signed up for Wellteam.me's six week, mind and body "Launch" challenge covering 30 of the world's healthiest habits". ✨Life is working for you✨ ➡️ Are you listening to it? 👂 This message landed with me at the weekend and made me stop and reflect. For so long I was battling against the flow of life, trying to control, fix and sort until I basically lead to near on burn out. The ramifications of that unraveled as I began to slow from a long corporate career into my own business in early 2023. This manifested in physical illness when I finally stopped and listened to my body, which had been running on autopilot, filled with tension and a constant armour 🛡️ of needing to prove I was ENOUGH. The awareness of being present, listening and seeing that life is working for me has created a HUGE change in conditions for me.
