What a powerful video which clearly shows the underlying needs that children convey through their behaviour. Dealing with that behaviour in a punitive and shaming way fails to adequately support the child's emotional development. Lets move to supporting all children with empathy and understanding, and not punishing them for communicating their needs, even if the way they are communicating that need is challenging and difficult for us as adults. #MentalHealthAndWellBeing #ThriveApproach
On the day the BBC is reporting an increase in behaviour issues in schools, is it not time the DFE recognised the need to change their Guidance on Behaviour in Schools from establishing routines, expectation and consistency in managing behaviour, to addressing the causes. For Luton, we are about to embark on a journey, a journey that increases understanding in why some children behave as they do, and also in reducing these behaviours by getting children into a better mindset. #EducationandLearningReset #TherapeuticThinking The video is excellent in expressing why some children behave as they do. Understanding children is the key in addressing the behaviour they exhibit.

Post pandemic, information age and overwhelm, social media never sleeps. Parents, carers and teachers also with full, demanding and noisy, busy lives. Social change, evolving attitudes, beliefs and behaviours. Life stressors, as well as joys. Are we so surprised that school aged children in the era of empowerment, initiative, confidence, authenticity and growing up far earlier than ever before as a result, in terms of knowledge and experiences (not necessarily academic or curriculum), that we see a rise in children whom are bored, frustrated, perhaps rude too or with behaviour problems? Education design and delivery, as well as teaching needs to evolve with children, not the other way round. Why are we failing these children and the people who try to support them all, the 'well behaved' and the more challenging ones? #Education #FutureOfWork #Attitude

Useful examples of why children may react with ‘rudeness’ …

The connective tissue of belonging to groups, participating in community, and creating social capital has held our country together, despite wide differences in our beliefs and politics. That is in peril today, however. The good news? It is reversible. We are at each other's throats because of seismic shifts in the economic and political landscapes, the advent of ubiquitous, instantaneous, and emotional use of cell phones, and social media, and the proliferation of independent forms of media, opinion, and "news," among many things. But most importantly, we walked away over the last six decades from virtually all forms of communal belonging - civic organizations, faith institutions, social clubs, sports clubs, and the like have all diminished. We stopped joining. In short, we went from "we" to "me." These changes moved us away from palpably experiencing and learning from diversity and creating the cross-sectional bonds that hold a society together. Harvard's Robert D. Putnam has shown us the importance of belonging and community for our health, country, and the general well-being of any pluralistic democracy. See his Bowling Alone, American Grace, The Upswing, Better Together, et.al. "Join or Die," a documentary on his work is now in national release via ABRAMORAMA. https://lnkd.in/e27M-Ne7 #belonging #community #socialcapital #democracy #pluralism #wellbeing #communitybuilding #interfaith #intercultural #placemaking #documentary #film
