🏙 🌳 ❤️ How can we better understand the connections between urban environmental quality and human health and wellbeing, and ensure that we have healthy urban ecosystems that support thriving communities? It's definitely an interdisciplinary challenge - and one our NERC: Natural Environment Research Council funded QUENCH network set out to explore. Through our discussions we found that what we understand by 'environmental quality' varies across disciplines and sectors, and we need to bridge the gap between these understandings. How can urban environments be planned, designed and managed for the benefit of both human health and nature? Different disciplinary understandings of environments and environmental quality present real challenges to advancing this agenda. Our new open-access paper brings together experts from environmental, health and social sciences with cross-sector practitioners to identify critical issues in bridging these divides. It explores key challenges and priorities for a new interdisciplinary research agenda, that it argues is needed for green infrastructure planning and management that supports the health of both people and nature.
