When I was serving in the military at the Military Demmarcation Line where many South and North Korean soldiers were confronting each other 30 years ago, I stood guard every night, listening to propaganda and popular music targeting North Korean soldiers resonating on the calm front. But the funny thing is that even though we was supposed to stand guard watching north but somtimes 😅 we watched south. Why? We had to make sure that we didn’t get caught dozing off by the patrol officers. The reason I am telling this is because this is also very common in business. People look at the management in the south rather than customer or market in the north. As a company grows, more and more people look inward, and eventually the company becomes internal-oriented and control-focused one belonging to the “Control” quadrant in the competing value framework by Quinn. This is why I had left a big company and joined a startup as a sales who can always engage with customers and markets at the front. Are you watching south or north?

Integrity in all things. This is something that was instilled in me by my father, reinforced by the military, and rewarded in business. Do what you say. Say what you mean. I usually hear from sales.people that it's a war out there in the field...a price war. My suggestion to them is to read the book ...Art of War by Sun-Tzu. Few of the quotes which are relevant in this cut-throat competition of selling your product are - "When one gives clear instructions and maintains a firm command, the army will be disciplined, and there will be no confusion. Thus, even the simplest commands must be understood and followed with precision, for in clarity lies the path to victory" - "Appear at points which the enemy must hasten to defend; march swiftly to places where you are not expected." -"Know your enemy and know yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster." -"In war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak" and lastly the one, which sums it all " Every battle is won, before it is fought' सो जाने ।
