It’s the third edition of our magazine, and the more we feature the works of the famous and the yet-to-be-famous, I wonder how little we know or will ever know about the minds of artists. This magazine raises relevant questions and does its tiny bit for arts and artists/es. Do we aspire to be commercially successful (much like our artists!)? We let that not worry us. Do we fear we are not doing enough? We embrace our limitations. Do we cherish what we’re creating on these pages and the portal? Too much! What happens to the art when the artist is no longer who we thought they were? As the list of once-beloved artists who’ve been exposed for illegal or immoral behavior grows, many of us are left asking ourselves an important, uncomfortable question: What happens to the art when the artist is no longer who we thought they were? From Bill Cosby and R. Kelly to Kevin Spacey, Trey Songz, and most recently, Diddy, we are constantly confronted with revelations about the actions of some of the biggest names in entertainment. This reckoning is forcing audiences to confront what to do with the legacies of these artists. It’s a complicated issue that brings up feelings of grief, loss, and inner conflict. I completely agree with this illustration. Writing helps me untangle ‘messy’ thoughts and feelings, giving them structure and clarity. I can see connections by articulating my abstract ideas into words. Writing is not just about communication.
