ECPS - Book Review The Wrecking of the Liberal World Order Reviewed by Andrea Guidotti In his book, “The Wrecking of the Liberal World Order,” Vittorio Emanuele Parsi argues that the neoliberal distortion of democracy has led to its erosion, giving rise to populism. This phenomenon has permeated both public discourse and the political culture of mainstream parties. Faced with this challenge, these parties find themselves at a crossroads, having to decide between a defensive response to the surge of populist movements or adapting and converging with their political platforms to prevent substantial losses in electoral support. On September 17th at the Athena Cinema, Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries (The Ohio State University) will deliver the annual Constitution Day Lecture entitled, "Why the Constitution Won't Save Us from Ourselves." American democracy is straining under intense internal pressure generated by those who reject traditional political norms and place little to no value on multi-racial democracy. Some say that there is nothing to worry about because the Constitution will safeguard our democracy. But history suggests otherwise. This lecture will explore why the Constitution is not enough to save American democracy from the threat within. https://lnkd.in/e-Aax-h4

📖[Book Review] In their review of the 2023 Oxford Handbook of Expertise and Democratic Politics, María Fernanda Díaz and Julian Iñaki Goñi commend its comprehensive insights into expertise in democracy but argue it needs deeper exploration of democratic theory, geopolitical dimensions, and Southern knowledge to fully enrich its discussion. 👓Read at: https://lnkd.in/guASDpve #Tapuya7 #OpenAccess
