Going through fertility treatment can be a nerve-wracking and sometimes demoralising experience. When it’s coupled with a past or current eating disorder, the whole process can be even more complicated. And with 16% of those seeking fertility care also experiencing a current eating disorder and around 25% with a past lived experience, it’s essential that #healthcare professionals are aware of this intersection. In this #podcast episode, we speak to National Eating Disorders Collaboration’s Dr Sarah Trobe to unpack how #fertility difficulties and going through fertility treatment can increase the risk of an eating disorder, but also how eating disorders can impact fertility. Dr Trobe shares how health care professionals can identify risks and respond appropriately, plus insights and tips for self-care for people currently impacted. We also discuss NEDC's new e-Learning program that is aiming to educate fertility professionals on how to prevent and minimise harm for eating disorders in the context of fertility care.
