50 Trailblazing Leaders in Menopause Women of Wearables (wearables, health tech & femtech) have compiled a list of the top leaders who are dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of women through their inventive solutions, services and products. Why? Here are the stats.. ➔  450 million women worldwide have menopausal or perimenopausal symptoms. ➔ 13 million people are currently peri- or menopausal in the UK, which is equivalent to a third of the entire UK female population. ➔ 9 in 10 women were never educated about menopause. ➔ ⅓ of women going to their GP with symptoms of the menopause are being offered antidepressants ➔  In the UK, only 59% of medical schools included mandatory menopause education in their curriculum. ➔ There are at least 34 menopause symptoms women experience, including hot flashes, mood swings, anxiety, poor sleep, brain fog, etc. ➔ Menopause symptoms cost billions in medical expenses and lost days of work. 📱 Does FemTech help or hinder women's transition through perimenopause and menopause? 💕 I have a love hate relationship with technology especially the small digital ones. I wonder sometimes if I'm jinxed and can break a new device just by looking at it. I bought myself an Oura ring but after using it for 6 months, I got bored and it's stored back in my drawer. 👭 I’m learning about the emerging market of FemTech, aimed to close the gender gap in healthcare, particularly MenopauseTech, a niche within the niche. 👩⚕️ Telemedicine apps e.g. Stella for menopause and Peppy support women to have better access to unbiased information, more holistic care and alternative options to relieve symptoms. ⌚ There are wearable technology e.g. Thermaband wristbands that gives you immediate relief from hot flashes and improve sleep, not forgetting future temperature regulating smart pillows and mattresses. I see the benefits of these technological advancements but I do have my concerns. 🔹 Are we increasing the divide between women from different socioeconomic backgrounds? 🔹 Does this further drive consumerism to more things women need (or not need) to help with their symptoms? 🔹 Are we putting more dependency on external devices to remind us what is going on in our bodies, rather than learning to trust ourselves and body wisdom? 🔹 Are we adding more stress wearing wearable technology when we should be reducing it during this phase? 🔹 Are we addressing the problem superficially, helping women to apply a plaster so they can carry on their usual way of life instead of asking them to review, slow down the pace and really weed out what no longer serves them? 🤔 What are your thoughts? I have huge faith in femtech. It's not just changing how women experience menopause but so many other health issues that have previously been ignored or treated with barbaric and outdated tools. So far, breakthroughs in femtech have led to the development of innovative solutions for women's health concerns. From AI-powered diagnostics to wearable devices catering specifically to women, these advancements have contributed to a more personalized and effective approach to healthcare. Why menopause?
