I also have a lot of people when they, after they come on course and they learn how in ConnectTherapy, we're treating the feet, they're amazed by how much we can change. And I've had patients who have burst into tears because they believed that they were destined for a certain structure of their foot. They've been told by other practitioners and their doctors that, you know, you're 40, your foot's not going to change anymore. And then I change their foot in a session and they can't believe it. So. I honestly think we can change more than we think we can. And a part of why I think we've been limited in our sort of traditional manual therapy approaches and outcomes is because we're looking at the foot very piece meal and we need to look at the foot and the ankle as a complex that we assess and we treat together. Now one of the things we are going to look at probably later this afternoon is how we relate the foot to the rest of the body. And one of the simplest ways that we do this is looking at how our center of mass is located over our base of support. And most of the time in standing and upright activities, our base of support is our feet. And so one of the questions we have when we look at both the loads in these feet is we don't have a reference of where the rest of the body is. And of course if you take your body mass and move it left, right over the base of support of your feet, your foot has to change and adapt. So we can't interpret what's going on at the foot either statically or dynamically without knowing where at least the center of mass is moving above it and then incorporating that into our reasoning process. Now, for those of you who've been on the thorax course, we've got some brand new people. So this is part of the format of a short course is to keep opening your eyes to other other concepts throughout the body. Many of you who've come on the thorax course would have a big understanding that the thorax is a key part of how you distribute your center of mass over your basis support. And you may be astonished to know that it can be up to a third of your body mass. And of course, why up to a third? Well, m more a muscular trunk is if is going to contribute more to your body mass. So I guess the composition of your thorax muscle and tissue is going to designate that if it moves left or right and rotates and moves anterior and posterior, then it's going to affect where you load. OK, so it's your largest region of your your spine, but it also is a big contributor to mass. So one of the things that Nicole's story highlights is that there's a strong link between how our thorax functions, how our thoracic rings function and how we distribute our center of mass over base of support. And I really think that this is one of the mechanisms and an important mechanism to be thinking of all the time of, of why we may be overloading or under loading and asymmetrically loading our feet. And of course you go, well, really, how much does it move LJ? And one of the criticisms, which I think comes from a misunderstanding of the model, in the Thoracic Ring Approach, is that it's a very small movement that the lateral translation that happens at each ring is small. It's a complete myth that it's too small to feel. It shows up on X-ray and CT and it also shows up in movement. And so I love this video. It's one of the therapists in the clinics, her patient, he's a runner. And you can start to see the capacity for the thorax to translate and what happens with that translation is also a rotation and so, You can imagine that every time you translate your thorax to the right, the big change in the distribution of your mass over your base of support and that when he hops on his right leg, the the muscles, the tissues, the tendons, the fascia of that right leg all have to adapt differently than when he jumps on his left leg. And in his case, he has an adductor tendonopathy had a history of a strain and then it's not been responding to treatment focused on his hip and his pelvis and and actually even his his feet. Because this thorax is what's driving the asymmetrical load and the work of that right adductor tendon, OK. Calcaneus. And I'm going to roll forward until I just fall off the Ridge of the front of the joint line. So that's going to be calcaneocuboid. Trace the 5th down like we did before. There's the styloid, the cuboid is in there. And The thing is the cuboid like way in there. If it's hard to find the cuboid, it's probably because it's medially translated. OK. So I'm going to lay my thumbs along the bones, I'm going to come on the cuboid as best as I can. And I'm going to try to pull the calcaneus slightly back. And then I'm going to try to pull and I cannot glide that cuboid forward. If I hold the calcaneus, there's no distraction. I'm gonna feel that as she moves. Boom, right away. And I don't know if you guys can watch my thumbs down you go, Nicole, Slowly... they go together. And it's really early. There's this increased squish, and I think that's why the midfoot arch is medially translating. The last thing I'll say is for all of our first time course people is I've been using the word "vector" and basically I wanted to find a vector. In math, it's a quantity having a magnitude and a direction and basically all of our tissues can create force vectors on our bones. OK, so we need to do. That's ok - we need to do, we've done navicular talus, we need to do first cuneioform-navicular and 1st metatarsal first cuneiform. And of course your tib ant attaches to the first cuneiform and the first met and can also indirectly compress that navicular. The other thing to remember is the peroneus longus comes around and attaches underneath. So slings underneath. So you want to check for peronei vectors on your, your medial ray as well. OK. But look at the difference in her heel raise if anything now that left foot is not as good, but that's probably from something going on her thorax. Okay, single leg stance, stand on your right leg. Yeah, and what I like is her adaptation now is through the whole forefoot. And look at that, she's no longer "pronating", so that medial translation of the navicular and midfoot arch is not happening at all. How do you feel, Nicole? Much more balanced and like. her toes feel a lot better, more relaxed. So that's a very different one leg stance.

Metrics:
Jump Height - The vertical height achieved from the jump
Concentric & Eccentric Asymmetry - Difference in force distributed between both legs during both phases of the squat before take-off

- Time to peak force values should decrease as the speed of force production increases.
- Peak Vertical Force should increase as strength increases.

🤔 How does the spine affect your pelvic floor?
👉 Short answer: In a HUGE way!
✍️ Posture affects how the pelvic floor muscles work together and can be directly related to your pain or PF dysfunction.
💁🏻♀️ That's why your pelvic physical therapist will evaluate your:
🧍🏽♀️Spinal Alignment - How are the bones of the spine aligned with the pelvis? Are they putting more pressure on 1 side versus the other?
🦶🏽Foot alignment - Are the feet bearing weight more on the inside or outside of the foot?
🤸Pelvic alignment - Evaluating the pubic symphysis, iliac crests, SIJ, and sacrum
🧘♀️ Breathing - Are the PFM and sacrum moving with the breath?
🏃♀️ Coccyx alignment - Is the coccyx aligned in the center, right, or left? Is the coccyx pulled inwards? Are the muscles in a spasm?
🤍 These evaluations are super important to jump start your healing process with your PT! Together you will create a plan that helps improve your symptoms and begin your journey of healing.

Getting on top of shoulder pain (and keeping it at bay) is one of a new grad physio’s biggest challenges!
A few shoulder stretches…
Scapula stability exercises…
Or theraband external rotations don’t cut it for most shoulder injuries.
You know what I am talking about, right?
Here’s what you need to do instead…
#1 Don’t Push Into Pain
There are some injuries you can load into pain, like some tendon issues and injuries like a lateral ankle…
But shoulders are typically not one of these injuries.
The often do not respond well to loading into pain, as they irritate the shoulder, causing an increase in your patient’s symptoms…
Something that your patient will not thank you for!!!
But don’t get this wrong…
This does not mean you have the rest the shoulder and be uber cautious and conservative.
Complete the opposite.
The shoulder needs to be loaded to get better.
You just need to know what exercises to do to find the right balance between loading the injured area…
But not push it too far so that you flare up your patients shoulder symptoms.
