Did you know that each state and territory has established a statutory authority with the responsibility to receive health complaints against healthcare service providers (both individuals and business)? This helps centralise health and disability complaints so that the community has one point of contact. If a complaint involves an individual service provider who is registered with a National Board, the statutory authority consults with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to decide which agency is best suited to manage the complaint. If a complaint involves an individual service provider who is not registered with a National Board, the state or territory authority implements the 'National Code of Conduct for Health Care Workers' by receiving complaints, undertaking investigations, and in some cases issuing prohibition orders to prohibit a health care worker from practising in Australia.

Urge your legislator to support the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act and a resolution to recognize health care worker burnout! The Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act (H.R.7153/S.3679) will reauthorize critical grant funding to prevent suicides by helping health care professionals and their employers support the wellbeing of the health care workforce. Similarly, S.Res.567 will designate March 18 as Health Workforce Well-Being Day of Awareness, recognizing the need to strengthen health workforce well-being. Health care workers are at an increased risk of suicide, and it is vitally important to make sure this dedicated workforce is uplifted so they can continue to care for our communities. Take action now – urge your legislator to cosponsor the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act (H.R.7153/S.3679) and S.Res.567 to designate March 18 as Health Workforce Well-Being Day of Awareness. https://lnkd.in/e4tka5RG

Specifically, there are calls to better support occupational therapists, eliminate disparities in Medicare payments for care provided in different settings, and address issues related to prior authorization and surprise medical billing. HELP US IMPROVE THE NON-INSURED HEALTH BENEFITS PROGRAM! The Southern Chiefs' Organization has launched a new survey to better understand how the Non-Insured Health Benefits program is working for you to help identify areas for improvement. NIHB covers a range of medical products and services such as some prescription and over the counter medication, vision care, dental care, medical transportation, medical supplies and equipment, and mental health counselling to eligible First Nations people. We have heard from members through their experiences, that the NIHB program is not operating to best serve First Nation citizens. Give us your feedback in our new SCO NIHB survey which consists of 20 questions and will take about 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary and all responses are confidential. You can find the survey at: https://lnkd.in/gtdGX7iT. The survey will close in mid-November. #SCOINCMB #NIHB #noninsured #healthbenefits #FirstNations #Indigenous #Treatyrights #health #healthcare #equity #wellness
