As a mental health nurse, I have witnessed the power of giving back a person's dignity after administering injectable medications. It's not uncommon for patients to become agitated and feel violated after receiving injections, leading to potentially dangerous situations. However, by using the right techniques and words, we can help calm them down and prevent any harm. If you're interested in learning how to effectively manage and prevent assaultive behaviors in healthcare settings, I encourage you to learn The Gentleway System. This system, developed by me, focuses on keeping both healthcare workers and patients safe, ensuring a happy work environment, and ultimately saving hospitals from costly litigations. The art of giving back dignity is not just about administering medications, but about treating patients with respect and compassion. Let's work together to create a safer and more respectful healthcare environment for everyone involved. #TheGentlewaySystem #MentalHealthNursing #DignityFirst

In traditional medical-directed care, doctors and nurses are in charge of their patient's care and many decisions can be made absent of the patient him or herself. This is not the case with person-centered care, where instead, relationships are enhanced and valued between caregivers and recipients of care by making decisions about daily routines, care, treatment and medications together. 💛 “What Matters to You?” is an opening question as part of our Living Well Programme in our Peter Gillam Support Centre. Many of our patients worry about the wellbeing of their close relatives - how they are coping with the illness and how they will cope when they have died. The Support Centre offers a safe and supportive atmosphere for patients to share their thoughts and experiences. 💛 “What Matters to You?” is a question the Hospice Inpatient Unit and Hospital team staff ask patients to find out the best ways to manage symptoms, physical and psychological care. 💛 “What Matters to You?” is a question our specialist community nurses ask to help people to plan for changes in their condition and to consider the place where people would prefer to die. #dyingmatters #dyingmattersawarenessweek #thewaywetalkaboutdyingmatters #hospiceuk
