*Maximizing The Hardest Part of Your College Applications* When it comes to college applications, the honors and awards section often goes underappreciated and overlooked. It’s also one of the hardest sections for students to find answers for. Nestled between the extensive academic and activities sections, this small yet mighty segment can make a significant impact on your application. Here’s why it shouldn’t be disregarded. Even though you only have five spots, admissions officers sift through thousands of applications, and showcasing recognition at a national or international level can set you apart from the crowd. Honors like national research awards, Presidential Service Awards, or prestigious competition victories demonstrate the kind of excellence and genuine commitment that admissions officers are looking for. Consider this example from a student admitted to MIT for math—one of the most impressive honors sections I’ve ever seen: USA Math Olympiad (2020, 2021): Awarded to top ~300 students in the US based on AMC + AIME scores. Recipient of $1000 MAA award for being one of the top five female scorers on AMC 12A (2021). USA Computing Olympiad Gold Level (2019). Four-time AIME qualifier (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021). Four-time Math Prize for Girls at MIT Qualifier (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021): Invites top 30 girls in the US. What makes this student’s list of accolades so impressive? It ties a clear narrative together around her passion for math and backs it up with impressive achievements compared to a national (and even international) pool of other students. The key takeaway: Aim high and strive for recognition beyond your local school or community. Take a moment to assess your current achievements and think about how you can elevate your honors and awards section. If you want help crafting a plan to maximize your Honors/Awards section (or any other aspect of your application) through our innovative “offensive” approach that does not rely on GPA/test scores, then book your free College Audit & Planning Session here: https://lnkd.in/dECyiSEz To your success, Akinyemi Joseph Lead Consultant@Joe Consult

Father, Head of Key Stage 1, Computing Subject Lead, Teacher, Trainer, Consultant and EdTech enthusiast! Google Trainer/Innovator, MIEE
🚸 I've created another video guide which I think will help you prepare your assessment tracking documents as well as other tracking files for next academic year. In Google Sheets we have many useful functions and options available to us, and by utilising just a few we can create easy to read/fill out documents, we share with our teachers. These will automatically give the teachers filling out these forms dropdown choices based on our school policy. In this example, I use an Oxford Owl Book Band tracker but you can use the same principles for any assessment tracker. ➡ Hope you find this helpful: https://lnkd.in/g3Xx5p4g ✅ And in case you are wondering; Yes, it also includes a Download of the demo file so you can save time getting started! #Edtech Google Workspace #GoogleForEducation #Teachers #Education #Assessment
