So happy to read an article by Michelle Bihary in the Winter edition of the OT Connections magazine 2024 about Best Practice Supervision - the key quote was "It's crucial to acknowledge that investing in best practice supervision isn't just an option; it's an imperative. We must commit to fostering supervisory relationships that empower, nurture, and respect". Also equally happy to read an article by Roseanne Holliday in the same edition, Continuing the Neurodiversity Affirming Practice Conversation, which follows on from my article introducing this topic in the Summer 2023 OT Connections magazine! The key quote was "By listening to neurodivergent adults regarding their lived experiences and their interactions with health, education and community services we may gain a better understanding and insight into how to better serve our clients". Highly recommend reading these articles! #OccupationalTherapy #Connections #KnowledgeIsPower #NeurodiversityAffirmingPractice #OccupationalTherapySupervision

"𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘫𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥? 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘪𝘹 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵?" If you could solve one problem in your world or sphere of influence, what would it be? In a world full of challenges, there's always that one issue that stands out—something that, if solved, could bring about meaningful change. Whether it's improving children's access to education, tackling maternal mortality, promoting mental health awareness, or something else entirely, it's important to think about how we can make a difference in our little corner. For me, the one problem I'd solve would be improving the health outcomes of communities, one person at a time through advocacy and health education. I believe if people know better, it will improve their chances of being better. 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥, 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 . This issue is crucial because whether it is just the health of Father, mother, and child ,everyone truly matters. A woman should not have to die because she is pregnant and can't access health care. By addressing it, I believe we could have a more productive society with people reaching their full potential. Now, I’d love to hear from you: If you had the power to solve any problem in your sphere of influence, what would it be and why? Despite significant investments in health research, there often remains a gap between what we know enhances healthcare and how it's implemented in practice. Knowledge translation (KT) is pivotal in closing this divide. Recently, our Knowledge Translation Platform convened an envisionarium with SPHERE members to generate actionable recommendations for promoting KT within and beyond our partnership. Facilitated with researchers, healthcare providers, and community stakeholders the discussions unearthed key insights. https://lnkd.in/g266UfG3 #HealthcareInnovation #KnowledgeTranslation #ResearchImpact #SPHERE #HealthResearch

Understanding Creative Health in London Report Mayor of London & London Arts and Health A new report commissioned by the GLA and written by Dr Rebecca Gordon Nesbitt with London Arts and Health finds that the Creative Health sector is making a significant contribution to the capital’s health and wellbeing. The 'Understanding Creative Health in London' report details the evolution, scale, character, and maturity of the creative health sector in London. The report addresses the following questions: How have the arts and health sectors evolved to improve Londoners' wellbeing? Who makes it happen and under what conditions? What are the sectors' main challenges and opportunities? The first of its kind, this research unpacks the history of creative health in London, tracing a sector in expansion to this day. The report celebrates the pioneering people and projects changing the lives of Londoners through creativity. As Justine SImons OBE (Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries) says, “it is a crucial invitation for all of us to double down in championing this vital work – in partnership across arts, health and social care sectors.” https://lnkd.in/e3NUD5Kn London Plus Nikki Crane FRSA Partnership for Young London Artsadmin

Learning this week a little bit about Neurodiversity. I believe that diversity extends beyond traditional categories to include the rich spectrum of neurological experiences and perspectives. Embracing neurodiversity means recognizing and valuing the unique strengths and contributions of individuals with varying neurological conditions, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and more... Sharing a very good article about it: Neurodiversity: What Is It? (webmd.com)

7moThanks so much Dr Micah Perez! You know how passionate I am about aligning supervision with best practice. It’s crazy that we are an evidence based profession and then ignore the evidence when it comes to supervision and leadership. Grateful to Occupational Therapy Australia for including this article in Connections 🙏
