THE RIPPLE EFFECT OF WETLAND RESTORATION: BENEFITS FOR ALL Restoring wetlands, such as those in the Sepik region of Papua New Guinea, offers wide-reaching benefits. Ecologically, it enhances biodiversity, providing habitats for diverse flora and fauna. Economically, it supports local communities through sustainable livelihoods and ecotourism opportunities. Wetlands act as natural carbon sinks, mitigating climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide. They also improve water quality by filtering pollutants and replenishing groundwater supplies. Socially, wetland restoration fosters community resilience, cultural preservation, and environmental stewardship. These multifaceted benefits illustrate the profound and interconnected impacts of wetland restoration efforts, creating a healthier planet for all. #WetlandRestoration #Biodiversity #ClimateAction

Freshwater ecosystems like rivers, lakes and wetlands cover less than 1% of the planet’s surface. But they play an outsized role in sustaining the environmental and economic systems on which people and nature depend. Wetlands are declining faster than tropical forests. Globally, we’ve lost 2/3rds since 1900. For too long, we have ignored and undervalued the unique qualities of freshwater ecosystems. To conserve them requires a new approach. This video, "Freshwater Imperative" video by The Nature Conservancy explains.

We are pleased to share the upcoming Nature Positive Water workshop, proudly led by the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA). This event is a collaborative effort, with special thanks to our partners at Yarra Valley Water, Melbourne Water, Barwon Water, and Icon Water. As part of the broader conference program convened by the Australian Land Conservation Alliance, this workshop is essential for anyone interested in understanding how the water sector is contributing to nature-positive goals in Australia. We will also explore emerging opportunities to partner with private landholders and community groups to scale these efforts. The workshop will cover three key themes: 💦 Partnering with water utilities – First Nations perspectives and opportunities 💦 Where we are now – water utility case studies with panel and group discussion 💦 Where we can go – exploring partnerships to scale action inspired by global case studies This event brings together over 400 delegates for two days of expert keynotes, practical workshops, and interactive panels. Join us for this enriching experience, and let’s work together to deepen our understanding of nature-related risks and opportunities. Secure your place today and become a part of this transformative journey. Just six months after the deployment of our artificial reefs, we witnessed transformative results for our local fishermen in Pondicherry. Embracing sustainable fishing practices, now they are earning between Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 daily, a significant uplift from their previous income. This success is complemented by their transition to hook-and-line methods, ensuring only adult fish are caught and safeguarding our juvenile marine life. This project is not just about enhancing livelihoods; it's a stride towards ecological sustainability, demonstrating the profound impact of our collective efforts towards conservation. This achievement is a clear testament to the power of sustainable initiatives in transforming lives and revitalising our oceans. It reinforces our belief that together, we can overcome challenges and build a brighter, more sustainable future for the coastal communities of Pondicherry.

Water wastage is a critical global issue, leading to the depletion of precious freshwater resources, increased energy consumption, and higher operational costs. Effective water management is essential to sustain this vital resource for future generations and minimize the environmental and economic impacts. In Chile, a dog named Suki is revolutionizing water conservation. Suki, a three-year-old Belgian Shepherd, uses her exceptional sense of smell to detect chlorine in water leaks. Her abilities surpass traditional methods, identifying leaks that often go unnoticed. Suki's work has already saved thousands of liters of water. Her success underscores the potential of innovative approaches and human-animal collaboration in addressing environmental challenges. Every drop counts, and with heroes like Suki, we can ensure the preservation of our planet's most vital resource. 💧🌱

🌊 Today, we unite to honor the International Day of Action for Rivers! 🌊 Rivers are not mere bodies of water; they are the lifeblood of our planet, sustaining ecosystems, communities, and economies. On this day, let's amplify our commitment to preserving and restoring these invaluable natural resources. Rivers contain a relatively small percentage of Earth's total water. They represent approximately 0.0001% of the Earth's total water volume. While rivers are vital for supporting ecosystems, providing freshwater for human use, and driving various economic activities, the majority of the Earth's water is stored in oceans (about 97.5%) with the remaining portion found in ice caps, glaciers, groundwater, and freshwater lakes. From advocating for policy reforms to participating in clean-up drives, each action we take contributes to the protection of our rivers. Let's pledge to be stewards of sustainability and champions for river conservation. Together, we can ensure that our rivers flow freely, providing clean water, energy, and biodiversity for generations to come. Happy #InternationalDayOfActionForRivers! 💧🌍 #RiverConservation #Sustainability #WaterIsLife #ProtectOurRivers #EnvironmentalAction #CleanWater #ClimateAction
