Assam Tea is 200 years young. Not old. 200 years gives us heritage and lineage. Keep that as a status, but don’t think old. Think young. We need to build a perspective and narrative for the next 200 years, with Assam Tea as a lead player, along with its cousins from West Bengal , Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka in tow. If Indian Tea needs to lead in the world of consumption, we need to take steps different. Different from what we took in the last 200 years.

Consumer preferences for different products keeps changing with factors like economic income, lifestyle, peer influence etc. While purchasing any product a consumer is influenced by economic, social and emotional needs. Is tea being marketed keeping the above factors in consideration? Why are we still marketing tea as a commodity product ? Are our value proposition correct? What value is the consumer looking for? Must research onto these factors. Just packaging is not value addition.

There should be a strategy document and action plan devised for Tea 2026 by an empowered think tank chosen on merit. Wishful thinking maybe
