As Indian private healthcare, backed by venture capital, claims to serve 80% of the population, a key question arises: Are they investing enough in basic research? While they excel in offering advanced treatments, much of the foundational research is still driven by government institutions. Should the responsibility for research rest solely with these public bodies? Private healthcare has the resources to contribute more, and doing so would not only fuel innovation but also strengthen their long-term impact. A stronger collaboration between private and public sectors is crucial for sustainable healthcare progress. Invest in innovation and basic research
Nowadays, collaboration between private and government research organizations is happening like IGIB, IITs are doing collaboration with some private firms to make the therapies available to most of the population. However, cost cutting in the advanced therapies is still a challenge.

We had this conversation about 10 months ago regarding basic research and publications. I am glad that despite everything, you are developing a program that I had suggested....private hospitals must support basic science research....Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center does to some extent... I have struggled in Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals , New Delhi , where I initiated to start a CAR T basic research program in 2016 under the guidance of Prof. NC Ganguly and Chairman Prathap C Reddy. Prof vinod raina has been guiding research for years at AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi) . Best wishes for developing a Genomics Institute at par with CSIR-IGIB or Atal Incubation Centre - CCMB or BRIC-National Institute of Immunology . If well written grants are submitted in association with a University, I am sure DBT BIRAC or Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will fund them. A collaborative effort of all the institutions in Delhi..Prof.Suparno Chakrabarti is the best Immunologist Hematologist around here....the rivalry of graduates of AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi) and Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore in Delhi needs to be settled...in an unified institution.
the mandatory csr shud be directed to research.. i totally agree . rather than donating for oxygen masks🙌🏻

Well said Dr. Rahul
Programs such as recently launched Cancer Moonshot, which is a collective effort to leverage public and private resources to reduce the number of lives lost to cancer is a great initiative undertaken by the Govt. Of India . Public and Private sectors should come together to develop innovative , affordable and sustainable healthcare solutions.
Quite agree doctor. Like corporates have a mandatory CSR contribution of X%. It should be mandated for health care sector - both for pharma and hospital / care industry to spend X% on Reaearch / care.
