So the news that the tech giant is finally gearing up to implement #AI in the #iPhone should be seen as a massive milestone. For a while, industry watchers have been scratching their heads wondering what Apple’s AI strategy actually was. This is in contrast to the company’s rivals who were seemingly racing ahead with their investment in, and implementation of, this burgeoning technology. But it appears Apple is taking a more nuanced approach and rather than viewing AI as transformational, it sees it as a tool to make the user experience better and its #ecosystem stickier. AI Ramblings AI Musings Are you ready for the Apple WWDC 2024? AI features will account for about half of Apple’s WWDC keynote presentation, which starts at 10 a.m. Pacific time (6pm UK time) and typically runs for roughly two hours. The new capabilities will be opt-in, meaning Apple won’t make users adopt them if they don’t want to. Apple’s AI features will be powered by its own technology and tools from OpenAI. And although a partnership with OpenAI will power these AI-based features. Despite this, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is not expected to appear at the event officially. Apple's focus on integrating AI into current apps rather than showcasing new features suggests they may not have the groundbreaking latest OpenAI advancements to reveal. The use of AI will prioritise on-device processing, with heavier tasks offloaded to the Cloud Expect enhancements to Siri, Safari, Messaging, Notes, Photo, Xcode and others. Will Apple and Google unite? …….. Following the announcement of Apple’s highly anticipated AI platform—Apple Intelligence—and its partnership with OpenAI (which will bring ChatGPT features to Apple devices), Apple is now reportedly set to announce a new partnership. This time, with Google. • Apple is expected to announce this new, strategic partnership with Google in September when it officially launches Apple Intelligence, iOS 18, and its new iPhone 16 series. • The partnership will integrate Google’s Gemini onto Apple devices, meaning Apple’s ecosystem will have three chatbots to complete specific AI tasks: Siri, ChatGPT, and Gemini. • Apple is also in talks with Anthropic and Meta, although sources say that talks with Meta haven’t gone well after they previously slammed them for poor privacy practices and an inferior AI model. Apple’s new AI features will only be available on iPhone 15 Pro or above, which could be a strategic move, by Apple, to encourage people to upgrade or switch to a newer model, in an attempt to boost sluggish iPhone revenue.
