Experience Over Age in HSE 💼🔥 During an oil and gas shutdown in Qatar, the project director walked into a meeting. Director: "Who’s he?" Manager: "Our new HSE engineer." Director: "How old are you?" Me: "25." Director: "Don’t hire anyone under 30 for such critical projects." To test me, he asked, Director: "How do you ensure an LEV system in a confined space is suitable and effective?" Me: "By measuring airflow at the capture zone 🌬️, verifying pressure differentials ⚖️, ensuring contaminants stay below exposure limits 📉, and conducting smoke tests to identify leaks 🔍." Next, he said, Director: "How do you ensure safety during hot tapping on a live hydrocarbon line?" Me: "By assessing residual pressure 🔧, gas-freeing the area 🛡️, using continuous gas detection 🛠️, and ensuring a standby emergency shutdown system 🚨." Finally, he asked, Director: "How do you prevent hydrocarbon release during stoppling?"
