Maison SL was named Womenswear Independent of the Year (<£1m turnover) at the Drapers Independents Awards 2023. Owner Susana Lorena tells us how she wins customer loyalty over her 16 years in the lingerie industry. “It is hard to sell luxury [product] online, lingerie in particular. It’s because [customers] lose the home feel that you get when you come here [in store]. That’s our biggest challenge to really get online going.” Read more below. #independent #lingerie #retailer #highstreet #NottingHill #MaisonSL #womenswear

As always, it was a pleasure to contribute my thoughts and insights to Drapers for this article by Sabina Weston. The luxury fashion landscape is complex at the moment with several factors from climate change to interest rates and tax, cost of living crisis to shifts in consumer mindsets all playing a role. As Richard Lim from Retail Economics points out, “Keeping a close eye on costs and looking at better ways to drive efficiency” remain key business strategies; and that sounds simple but it's been difficult for some retailers including those with newer leadership/teams to move quickly enough in order to correct the damage done. Over the years we (Flint Hyde) have made several placements for clients in the luxury and fashion ecommerce spaces and it's been difficult to see some incredible, hard-working talent go through so much challenge. Also for the smaller brands and businesses who have relied on these platforms to promote and sell their goods. It will be interesting to see what's to come for luxury and luxury ecommerce businesses but like most sectors, it's not all doom and gloom - "there are also ways to win – even in this difficult market". #luxury #ecommerce #fashion #talent
