Last month marks three years since one of our biggest ever engineering challenges – the collapse of a wastewater main, 15 to 17 metres underground, which fed Southend Water Recycling Centre and is responsible for treating half of the city's sewage. Despite the huge complexities surrounding the repair itself, the need to maintain services for customers and protect the environment, it also presented us with an opportunity to think ahead about how we could prepare the site for the future at the same time. By reconfiguring the site, installing additional pumps and creating more capacity, alongside fixing the initial problem, our engineers were able to make the site fit for the growing city for years to come. The next five years will see our biggest ever capital infrastructure programme and even more complex engineering challenges where we’ll take the same approach – preparing our region for the future. Find out how else we’re investing in our region here: https://lnkd.in/ewEF-A3f. #WasteWater #Investment #ThinkingDifferently

Ecocem is proud to have worked in conjunction with Deep Soil Mixing Ltd to successfully complete a 12-month ground improvement project for Norfolk County Council Highways Department at the Nar Ouse Enterprise Zone, King’s Lynn. This project involved soil mixing to prepare the ground for new service roads and infrastructure as part of the business park and industrial estate construction. https://lnkd.in/dsB7pY8H Key Achievements: • Increased Stability and Strength: Enhanced the soil’s load-bearing capacity to support the construction of service roads, embankments, and future infrastructure • Low Environmental Impact: In-situ soil mixing eliminated the need for excavation and waste transportation, significantly reducing carbon emissions • Utility Protection: Soil mixing was employed to protect sensitive utilities such as gas mains and drainage systems, thanks to its low-vibration properties, with vibration levels well below National Grid standards Ecocem GGBS is one of the best solution for stabilising contaminants in soil due to its high strength, increased durability, and leachate reduction. Bitumen, a vital petroleum product, plays a crucial role in the construction and maintenance of modern infrastructure. Known for its waterproofing and adhesive properties, bitumen is extensively used in road construction, roofing, and industrial applications. Key Benefits of Bitumen: Durability & Flexibility – Enhances road longevity by withstanding extreme weather conditions and heavy traffic. Water Resistance – Acts as a reliable waterproofing agent for roofs, bridges, and underground structures. Recyclability – Contributes to sustainable construction through reusability in road resurfacing projects. #Bitumen #PetroleumProducts #Infrastructure #RoadConstruction #SperluxEnergy

One of the key benefits of our precast concrete elements is that the industrialized production method requires less water, allows for better waste control, and ensures that excess materials are efficiently handled and reused. The precision of the controlled environment also minimizes cement usage to only the necessary amount, while optimizing the use of other raw materials in the concrete mix. Together, these factors lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional in-situ construction methods. Reducing the carbon emissions of our customers' projects is what drives us, and we are proud to say that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) recently validated that our near-term emissions reduction targets are aligned with the 1.5°C science-based targets framework. #WellBuiltForWellBeing #PrecastConcrete
