Dear Kind, Gracious, Benevolent Benefactor, Hello, my name is John W. I sincerely hope I am not imposing on your valuable precious time. I am writing to you today to beseech your kind consideration regarding my present situation. I am humbly asking for any financial assistance you and your organization may be able to provide. I believe with all my heart you truly do care about making people happy and the joy it could bring in knowing you are empowered to make a life-changing difference in the life of someone like me who is asking for help. The reason for my petition has to do with raising funds to launch my women’s clothing and clothing accessories online apparel store. My goal is to raise 10,000 to help pay for expenses related to the website build, hosting, marketing, paying webmaster expenses, etc.     Would you be able to contribute to my cause? A donation of any amount would make a huge difference and would mean so much to me. Any resources in regard to funding for a new business start-up would also be most welcome indeed. At this time I am looking to raise any amount of money to help pay for my website, website designers, web developers, webmaster fee's, hosting company, etc. This is a project I am very passionate about, not only for myself to be successful, independent, and prosperous, but more importantly my desire to pay it forward. It would mean the world to me to contribute more to my favorite charities as well. I believe in the nobility of virtuous women and their role in our society, changing lives, developing futures. It is my most sincere endeavor to style our savvy sophisticated lovely ladies as well as to empower young women and girls all over the world. It was my wife Denise who encouraged me to open my e-com store who also happens to be an overnight baby nurse as well as a fashionista. Her hobby is designing women. She has dedicated her entire career to the compassionate care, empathy, and love required for newborns and children. Many of the families she has had the honor to be employed with call her the "baby whisperer." This is a project we are very passionate about, and although I have gathered a team of experts as well as women's designer clothing vendors, there is still much work that needs to be done to bring my dream to fruition. Your gracious charitable donation in any amount will go toward the people and organizations empowered with the skills and expertise to make my dream a reality. This reimagined logo for Kim Durden of Divine Dine Food Tours is part of my latest passion project. I was inspired by Kim texting me a link to her GoFundMe for Out the Block Experience and knew I wanted to contribute to the important work she has been doing in a larger way. What started as a sketch for a custom sticker quickly snowballed into reimagining her branding for both Out the Block Experience and Divine Dine Food Tours. All of this was done without her knowing. I surprised her and revealed the designs over a quick Zoom call where we were discussing the details of her being featured on my blog. I've known Kim since 2020 when we were in the same cohort of ScaleUp, a business accelerator type program run by the Women's Business Development Center (WBDC). This passion project has been a great way to reconnect with Kim and work towards amplifying the important work that she is already doing. The lesson? Always remember that your skills have value and there are countless opportunities to put them to good use. You have the power to contribute your talents to whatever you want. I hope you choose to contribute your talents in meaningful ways - big and small. Let's show some love for Black (especially Black, woman-owned) businesses this month and always. My name is Joseph Woodstrup, and I am the owner/designer at Creative Solutions JCD. I sell Christian and Space themed merchandise. I am looking to raise money to help me pay for the base price of some of my merchandise so that I can have a small amount of physical inventory on hand to show people online and to potentially sell in my local area. This is important to me because my sales have increased in the past by having the physical item on hand to display in live video posts online. This has also helped prove to people that me and my merchandise is real and have some available on hand to sell locally or ship immediately from my location without waiting on production time. Currently, all my products are made on demand per sale. It takes about a week to produce them and then another week to ship to the customer. If you are a brand posting about how much you appreciate women this month, it would be dope if you put your money where your mouth is for Ashe Lounge. Donating free weed to our events is not the support we need anymore. That means you want us to include you in signage, professional photos, design social media assests for you, constantly post about you, get clicks for your website and give you access to 100 consumers for free. And no, you can’t bring a vendor table and lanyards. Our events are about actually connecting with the consumer. Join them at a table and smoke them out and talk about your product organically. People don’t want to go to events just to be sold and marketed to. Our events are about human connection and good vibes. We are not your brand ambassadors. We are looking for long term partners that believe in our mission and want to see us get there. PAY US to produce these events that your team gets to be a part of. I’ve seen event sponsorships for $20,000 get funded. Our sponsorships range from $500-$2,500. (And we aren’t paying ourselves. All money is going to women and minority owned vendors for the event.) Happy womens month or whatever. 😂

In 2019, Jay-Z sent a fleet of $40,000 Rolex’s as invitations to his Gala. It was one of the most genius marketing moves of all time. Here’s how you can do the same (for a fraction of the cost): Jay-Z was holding his Shawn Carter Foundation Gala (and launched a fundraiser campaign). As invitations, he sent 2 gifts to VIPs: 1. A $40,000 Rolex Daytona (chocolate dial) 2. A bottle of Ace of Spades (his champagne) Great way to get someone's attention. Think about this… If you received a gift as expensive as these, wouldn’t you feel obligated to donate? I would go ahead and say, “Absolutely.” Jay-Z knew that. These were the results: 1. Multiple famous artists publicly thanked him (exposure to millions of people). 2. These gifts set the tone for donation sizes that would now seem appropriate. 3. His philanthropic circle now consists of ultra-high net worth individuals. Put simply, he understood his audience. Which is exactly what you need to do as an artist if you want to succeed today. Imagine that you were doing a merch drop or giveaway for your own fanbase. What would you send? I’ll tell you this: It does NOT need to be a $40k watch. The underlying message here is that you MUST understand your audience. What will “wow” them? If you make country music, maybe you could give out custom cowboy hats. Or even sell them. You want to attract 1,000 TRUE Fans who will say, “I just need to have that.” Connection > Everything. Context is everything. There’s this popular article the Washington Post ran sixteen years ago about Joshua Bell, the famed violinist. He performed incognito outside a DC metro using his multimillion-dollar Stradivarius violin. This was a guy who at the time was charging $300 per ticket to see & hear him play at famous concert halls. For the forty-five minutes he played, only seven people stopped & listened for a minute. Over one thousand walked past, oblivious to the genius that was playing. Good news though; he made $32 in donations. How is this relevant in business? Positioning. The worst thing a business can do is confuse the consumer. He/she doesn’t want & doesn’t have the time to think about that should place your product/service in relation to other products & services. Providing context i.e the where, when & how you do business in a clear way, signals to consumers the value of your product.
