Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor and celebrate the rich history and enduring contributions of Indigenous communities in Minnesota and beyond.
At Dress for Success Twin Cities, we recognize the strength, resilience, and leadership of Indigenous women in our local communities, including the Dakota and Ojibwe peoples, whose land we are privileged to live and work on. We are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable space where all women, including Indigenous women, have the tools and support they need to succeed in their careers and lives.
Here are a few ways you can celebrate today and beyond:
• Support Native-owned businesses: Shop at local Native-owned businesses, restaurants, and artisans to support Indigenous entrepreneurs in your community- leave some of it favorites in the comments!
• Learn about Minnesota’s Indigenous history: Educate yourself by reading books, watching documentaries, or attending lectures about the Dakota and Ojibwe peoples, who are native to Minnesota.
• Advocate for Indigenous rights and causes: Get involved in initiatives that support the rights and well-being of Indigenous communities, such as land reclamation efforts, voting rights, or environmental justice.
Let’s come together to celebrate Indigenous cultures and work towards a future where equity and opportunity are available to everyone.
