There is only one way to play football. There is only one way to run and lead a company. It’s called winning whole. As a child, we want the ball, we want to pass the ball we want to control the ball. We want to kick the ball. We want to dribble with the ball. You look at the majority of the professional game it’s the opposite of that Technically, everyone superb. Tactically everyone’s extremely well-versed. Emotionally everybody’s extremely ignorant. Fear Fear Fear Brian Clough died an alcoholic. I’ve been around 12 step fellowships for well over a decade One thing I’ve seen time and time again, and I relate to it with an addictive personality. Also, the sensitivity, huge emotional depth, and the creativity is both the greatest blessing and the greatest curse. The whole in the soul is big when you continue to feel. It’s gonna need filling. To play football to pass the ball to move the ball to ask people to have courage and be the child again when there’s so much at stake in the professional game is the hardest thing. If you’re looking to lead that it will take you to Hell’s door. You will be exhausted. You will be lonely. It will take all of you I talk about Academy football and I couldn’t agree more many in the system would think they’re playing like Pep Guardiola great Barcelona, Tika Taka, or Manchester city teams, to the untrained eye to the naïve it might look that way, but it’s night and day. What’s the difference? Not the formation. Not the passing of the ball. Not the angles. Not the tactical information. Emotions. The first emotion intensity from the Latin Intensus, meaning depth of feeling. Well, I’ve seen many academies in over 30 years. I’ve coached elite 14-year-olds 12 years ago in that system. And I saw a lack of intensity in all teams around me. Not in mine we are going to run. We are going to fight. We are going to claw we are going to scrap we are going to sprint till we can’t breathe. We’re gonna taste blood on our young lungs and we’re gonna make angles for each other all over the pitch and then when we lose possession, we’re gonna hunt you like the hungriest dogs you’ve ever seen and you’ve got what we want and we’re gonna rip it from you. Why? Intensity, Intensus , depth of feeling. I’m feeling everything I’m absolutely terrified of failing. I’m absolutely terrified of going back to the life before. I’m absolutely terrified of dying unfulfilled. These emotions, these feelings paralyze me. I’m so grateful for that . Thought it is in the overwhelming feelings that have the capacity to paralyze Performance that we surrender that we quit that we give up. If you don’t feel like that, I would suggest you’re not feeling properly. There’s a sense of denial in you well, that will come and get you. Brian Clough wow intensity to the point of death. Courage Courage Courage That’s what’s required if you want to remain playing football on the grass. Vulnerability Vulnerability Vulnerability
Thank you endlessly Drewe for helping me and all of us with these fantastic posts of truth. Again thank you
As always, fantastic posts and insights, Drewe. Clough saw the game as a blank canvas and every pass as a brushstroke of some kind. Authentic as they come. One of a kind. A romantic. True creativity is the absence of fear. Thank you for sharing. 💪🏻

6moAbsolutely spot on as ever Drewe Broughton • The Fear Coach •. Development Football has gone too far in my eyes. Football without the passion, the enthusiasm, the intensity and drive to win is a very dull game indeed. You want to reach the very top, you need that fire, you need that intensity and the abilty to feel. The importance of this in development should never be forgotten⚽️
