I'm a firm believer in the advantages of ONE AFRICA. In fact, many people are advocating for an integrated Africa, envisioning open borders, unified peoples, free travel, a single continental currency, and unrestricted trade as keys to solving Africa's challenges. However, the harsh reality is that this vision will never materialize due to the diverse ideologies and constitutional principles that divide the continent.
Each nation's right to self-determination and sovereignty, as enshrined in international law, poses a significant obstacle to achieving a borderless Africa. The varying interests and concerns of individual countries mean that some will inevitably resist the idea of open borders, fearing potential losses.
In light of these complexities, the notion of a unified 'One Africa' remains an elusive dream, hindered by the very principles that safeguard national autonomy and sovereignty. In addition, the power struggles and regional conflicts will also hinder the establishment of ONE AFRICA. There are too many risks involved especially putting into cognizance the number of civil conflicts currently marring the continent. Then come the ethnic divisions where some nations are under the grand delusion of being better than others. Who is willing to relinquish their power in order to bring about one Africa?
