Just completed a training course, but two weeks later, it feels like you've forgotten everything? 😱 You're not alone! Our latest blog post explores why this happens - it's all due to the 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲, a natural brain process that prioritises urgent matters and prevents overload. While not remembering everything might seem like no big deal, there are times when having knowledge readily available is crucial! Discover the key factors that contribute to the forgetting curve and learn how to effectively fight it. I help swimming coaches build race-winning skills in a systematic manner. Follow for posts about how to develop the most important skills as quickly and easily as possible.
The concept of a ‘high elbow pull’ applies equally to the breaststroke kick. The high elbow is all about creating a big surface area, and breaststrokers need to take advantage of the same exact principle if they want to create speed with their kick. The more they can create a big surface area with the whole foot and shin to kick with, the more propulsion they’ll be able to create. A simple strategy to help encourage swimmers to set up their kick more effectively and learn how to move more water with each kick is by using kick counts. If they can learn to take fewer kicks, or go faster at the same kick count, they’re going to be setting up the kick more effectively. The objective feedback is critical for learning. Add in some strategies to help swimmers feel more pressure on the feet, and you get better skills, faster.

Brain training is not the same as tutoring... What we do in our centers is actually more like personal training! Your brain relies on cognitive skills to think, learn, and remember, and strengthening these skills requires intense and targeted intervention. Just like you gradually increase your reps at the gym or work with a personal trainer to strengthen specific areas of your body, our programs systematically work on weak cognitive skills to help unlock easier & faster learning.

Ways to learn “anything” in 20 hours Live your subject, you will die tomorrow... and learn as if you were living forever.” A quote by “Mahatma Gandhi admitted, contradicting the term that was prevalent at the time, that a person needs 10,000 hours, approximately 7 years, to master any field. But Josh Kaufman, author of “The First 20 Hours,” rejected this, stressing that “anything” can be mastered in just 20 hours, according to the “TIME” website. Kaufman says that learning any new skill takes 20 hours, if a person trains intelligently and practices what he can learn on a regular basis 1. Deconstruct the skill 2. Learn enough to correct yourself 3. Removing barriers to practice 4. Exercise no less than 20 horses

What should you expect when you initially start changing your swing? 1. This phase of training should supplement your training schedule, not dominate it! 2. This type of training will shift our focus of attentional proximally (closer to us). This means that there will be such a large focus internally on the change of movement(s), that a focus also on the target and ball flight may lessen (similar to a basketball player focussing on the arm movement will have less awareness of the hoop) 3. Due to the above, and the fact your neural pathways have not ‘been built’ with new movement, we can expect a decrease in performance

Adults need a safe environment to learn. The perception of threat can trigger the brain 🧠 and reduce the capacity for deep thinking. Several components impact safety such as.. 🟠Atmosphere during the session, 🟡 Design of learning tasks, 🟢 Structure of dialogue & 🟣 Facilitation of session. All training elements should work together to create a sense of safety, so that adults can feel safe enough to be challenged by their learning. #adultlearning
