So you're a coffee drinker, but have you really begun your coffee journey? Specialty coffee and home brewing guides can be overwhelming, making the entire process seem impossible. Let’s get back to the basics: The average consumer needs to think about three things: Brewing style, coffee roast level, and flavor profile. 1. Brewing Methods ☕ Brewing can and will alter the overall taste of your coffee, so experimenting with different types is an important first step. Some popular methods include: Aeropress: Low cost, quick, and produces a clean cup in under 2 minutes. French Press: Offers a rich, full-bodied flavor. Pour-Over: Provides great control and can highlight subtle flavors. 2. Roast Levels 🌟 The coffee bean itself will have the greatest effect on your coffee's flavor. Here's a breakdown of roast levels: Light Roasts: More acidity and fruity notes. Medium Roasts: Balanced and sweet, perfect for most coffee drinkers. Dark Roasts: Bold and smoky, but can be tricky to avoid a "burnt" flavor. 3. Flavor Profiles 🍒🍫 Your ideal cup of coffee is subjective and depends on your preferred flavor profile. This can be affected by both brewing styles and roast levels, so experiment with one factor at a time to find your perfect cup. Key Tip The most important part of flavorful coffee is buying high quality, specialty-grade beans. Coffee should have intricate and delicious flavors with sweet undertones. Buy from local coffee roasters who expertly roast their beans to highlight the best characteristics of their coffee. So get out there and start brewing! Have you ever wondered how to evaluate a 🍷 wine like an expert? For the next few weeks we’ll be looking at the steps pros use when evaluating a glass of wine: Sight, Smell, and Taste. Sight: 👀 Look straight down into the glass, then hold the glass to the 💡 light, then roll the wine around by tilting the glass. Certain grapes have a particular color and scent. If you see a brown or rusty color in your wine, that is generally not a good sign. Is the wine clear, or murky? Points for clarity, good color and a little sparkle! Does your wine have “legs” when you 🌀 swirl it? That’s usually an indication of a bigger, more robust wine with more alcohol. The size of your grind can radically change how your coffee tastes ☕️ We’re big believers in whole-bean coffee at Counter Culture Coffee. Not only does whole-bean coffee retain its freshness longer than ground coffee, it also allows you to customize your grind size for the coffee and brewing method. Different brewing techniques require different particle sizes depending on their shape and how long water and coffee are in contact. Generally, brew methods with shorter water contact times, like espresso or AeroPress, require a finer grind size. Longer, slower brew methods, like French press, work best with a coarser grind. Once you establish a starting grind size for your brew method, assess the coffee you’re brewing. We dive DEEP into the art of grinding on our blog→ https://lnkd.in/d9wJQacS Takeaways: →Shorter brew time = finer grind →Longer brew time = coarser grind →The darker the roast, the coarser the grind setting →Ethiopian coffees require a slightly coarser grind compared to coffees from other origins that have been roasted to the same level →Grind finer when brewing coffees from higher elevations

Daily Dollop of Wallop #16 Writing this little one from a delightful little coffee shop in Worthing. Forgot how much of a lovely place this is. Spent a lot of my yoof in Brighton where a lot of my mates went to Uni. So, my thoughts and opinions are based around this notion of low abv wines giving way to a culture (potentially anyway) of wines becoming sessionable. A big brand, and one that In admire a lot and have worked with recently, launched a new product with a lower ABV of 3.4%. My view, is that clearly, there is demand for not just a wine off this ilk, but a 'movement' too. I will champion it because at the end of the day, it is both product innovation and market driven innovation based on the demand. I don't have any stats to hand as to how large that demand is, but it is clearly big enough for a wine like this to be launched in both the on and off-trade markets. It's a bold move I think, and one that only the best, most calculated and wide eyed brands could do. Any initial thoughts? Would you nip online and pop the cap on this wine for a tenner? It's an interesting one. I am waiting to see what the reactions are before I give a more granular response and opinion. Leverage your beverage. Oh, I am in a huge rush before I go and host a wine dinner at a beautiful venue for a client (Orchid House in Worthing), apologies for any dodgy spelling! #nolo #lono #lowalcocoholwines #boldmoves #innovation
