The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has a rich history rooted in the evolution of the trucking industry. It began with two separate organizations: the Contract Carrier Conference, established in 1938, and the Common Carrier Conference – Irregular Route, founded in 1941. In 1983, these two groups merged to form the Interstate Carriers Conference, marking the first step toward unifying truckload carriers under a single umbrella. This name evolved in June 1988 to become the Interstate Truckload Carriers Conference, reflecting a sharper focus on the truckload segment of the industry. March of 1997, the Board of Directors approved the organization’s current name: Truckload Carriers Association (TCA). Today, TCA continues to be the voice of truckload carriers across North America, advocating for their success and advancing safety, education, and collaboration within the industry.

🚍 News in Public Transportation CDL Requirements 🚍 The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has requested a five-year exemption from the "Under-the-Hood" testing requirement, allowing states to waive this component for CDL applicants in public transportation – including interstate transit. If approved by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), this exemption would eliminate a testing requirement for public transit operators nationwide, addressing an industry workforce shortage. APTA President & CEO Paul P. Skoutelas emphasized, "This exemption is crucial for addressing the severe workforce challenges facing our industry while maintaining our unwavering commitment to safety." A recent report revealed that 92.3% of transit agencies find under-the-hood content irrelevant or only somewhat relevant for operators, given that maintenance is typically handled by separate, qualified personnel. However, High Mountain Safety opposes this relaxation of safety standards 🚫. Reducing CDL testing and safety standards has proven to increase the rate of incidents and accidents – exactly the opposite of what we want for vehicles carrying passengers. Safety standards exist to protect both operators and the public, and any exemption should be carefully considered with long-term impacts in mind. #CDL #PublicTransportation #SafetyFirst #HighMountainSafety #TransitSafety #Workforce #FMCSARegulations

Spending the last couple of hours of the workweek diving into the upcoming changes to the LTL freight classification system. These much-needed updates are a game-changer for the industry, offering a solution to some long-standing challenges. Not only will they streamline the process of classifying freight correctly, but they’ll also help eliminate those frustrating reclassification fees. I’m excited to get up to speed on these changes, so I can ensure my team at Axle Logistics is fully prepared and equipped for our upcoming LTL initiative training sessions. Looking forward to the positive impact these improvements will bring! #LTL #Freight #SupplyChain #Logistics #ContinuousImprovement
