You see someone shouting at another person on a train platform. The other person starts sobbing profusely. What do you do? This is the first question in a fun quiz from our friends over at Penguin—What kind of reader are you? I got The Connector, which feels right. I am very interested in people, learning, and creating a network. Take it here: https://lnkd.in/eCtgdvSH And tell me what you are! #Siliconchips #AcademicPublishing #PublishingHouse

Today is #worldbookday I saw a lot of schoolchildren dressed in their favourite characters to celebrate World Book Day. I was impressed by the reading culture which provides a solid foundation for educational success. With the advent of technology, reading books is becoming less popular and the younger generation is becoming less interested in reading which should not be the case. Everyone willing to make a positive impact in the world has to embrace continuous learning and growth. Reading is one sure way of advancing knowledge and expertise. Do you have a reading culture? Make plans to read at least one book a quarter. “The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you”. B.B. King. #worldbookday #learninganddevelopment #reading

Our learners took part in a fun and engaging "Book Tasting" to kick off our DEAR routine—Drop Everything and Read! To help make this time intentional, our learners got to explore a variety of genres, tasting different books to find their perfect reads for the upcoming months. Here's how it worked: 1️⃣ Choose a Station: Learners started by picking a genre station. They were encouraged to rotate and try different genres, spending no more than two rounds at the same station. 2️⃣ Browse for 1 Minute: At each station, they spent the first minute browsing the selection. They looked at the book covers, read the summaries, and examined the text to see if it caught their interest. 3️⃣ Read for 2-4 Minutes: After choosing a book, learners spent the next 2-3 minutes reading the first few pages to get a feel for the story and decide if it’s something they might enjoy. 4️⃣ Critic Notes: In the final minute, they filled out their critic notes, jotting down their first impressions. If they liked the book, they added it to their reading list! 5️⃣ Rotations: Learners repeated this process for five rotations, exploring a range of genres. By the end, they had a list of at least three books they’re excited to read! And with that, their reading adventures are off to a great start. 🍽️📖 Bon Appetit! #siouxfalls #literacy #readingactivities
