DronePort Rotterdam Visits the KRVE Rotterdam Boatmen Yesterday, DronePort Rotterdam (Niels Kalshoven, Lisa van der Heijden and Arthur Dallau) had the privilege of visiting the Royal Boatmen’s Association Eendracht (KRVE), 𝐚 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝟏𝟖𝟗𝟓. As we prepare for our presence during the 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒, there was no better way to get inspired than by connecting with an association that has delivered exceptional service and operated 24/7 for over 129 years. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Bastiaan Ruitenga for arranging our meeting with the KRVE Board, and being such a great partner the last couple of months. A special thank you to Erik de Neef, Chairman of KRVE, for his open-minded and constructive approach during our conversation, and his willingness to work with us towards the future. It was an invaluable opportunity to discuss "Nautical Services 2.0" and the potential role drones can play in enhancing the port's operations. These discussions reinforced the importance of practical use cases and validating the impact drones can have—both on business models and at a societal level. Without this validation, successfully implementing drone regulations and policies would be impossible. The conversations also highlighted that 𝐔-𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠. Founded in 1895, when boatmen still manually secured and loosened ropes from rowboats, they earned the title "Royal" on their 100th anniversary in 1995. Today, with a modern fleet of around 60 vessels and a team of highly qualified skippers, KRVE continues to provide top-tier service in all conditions, day and night, 365 days a year. We are excited to explore how drones can add value to KRVE's operations and the wider port community, enhancing safety, security and efficiency in a port known for its pioneering spirit. Together, we aim to ensure a safe, secure, and sustainable future for the port, 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨-𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝. in Rotterdam #WeMakeItHappen! #DronePortRotterdam #KRVE #WorldPortDays2024 #NauticalServices2_0 #SmartPort #Innovation #DroneHorizon #USpace

So, I had my second drone flight, and let me tell you, it was a ride! You know, drones are cool and all, but they can be a bit tricky for us beginners. But hey, with some patience and a whole lot of practice, it's worth it! So, picture this: I'm out there at Lac des Bouillouses in France, surrounded by breathtaking views, and I'm about to take off. The excitement? Off the charts! But then, the fear kicks in, like, 'What if I crash this thing?' 🙈 But guess what? I didn't! Well, not too badly, anyway. 😂 Now, I've got some tips for anyone else diving into drone flying for the first time: 1️⃣ Get to know your gear: Seriously, watch some YouTube tutorials, read the manual (yeah, I know, who does that?), and just play around with it. The more you know your drone, the more confident you'll feel. 2️⃣ Find a good spot to practice: Finding open spaces to fly my drone can be tough with regulations, but it's key for beginners and it also motivates your adventurous soul! 3️⃣ Take it slow: Believe me, I was shaking like a leaf on my first flight! 😂 Don't rush into doing fancy maneuvers right away. Start with the basics – takeoff, landing, flying straight – and go from there. So yeah, flying drones? Super fun, but it's a learning curve. Just take your time, stay safe, and enjoy the ride! I wanna hear your drone stories and tips too! Drop 'em in the comments below. 👇🏼 #Drone #DroneLife #DroneAdventures #DJIMini3Pro #DJIEspaña #DJIFrance © Video - Follow me on Instagram: @andre.filmmaking Song: This was a TikTok hit by Alan Walker, Putri Ariani, and Peder Elias, called "Who I Am"

Navigating the Skies in Malaysia: Essential Drone Flying Guidelines Embarking on a drone-flying adventure in Malaysia? To ensure a smooth and compliant experience, familiarize yourself with the key regulations governing this exciting activity. Our research has distilled the essential rules for drone enthusiasts to abide by: 1. Airspace Restrictions: Keep your drone grounded in Class A, B, C, or G airspace, and steer clear of aerodrome traffic zones. Flying above 400 feet from the ground is a no-go. 2. Visual Line of Sight: Maintain a direct visual line of sight with your drone at all times during operations. This not only enhances safety but also aligns with regulatory requirements. 3. Commercial Operations: Planning to use your drone for commercial purposes? Ensure you obtain permission from the Director General. You can easily find his contact information for a streamlined application process. 4. Weighty Matters: If your drone tips the scales at more than 20 kilograms (44 pounds), you'll need explicit permission from the Director General before taking flight. Refer to his contact information to facilitate the necessary approvals. Embarking on drone adventures in Malaysia is an exhilarating experience, but adherence to these rules is crucial. Stay informed, fly responsibly, and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes from the skies above. 🚁✨ #DroneFlying #MalaysiaAdventures #SafeSkies

In preparation for my upcoming expedition to Svalbard, I'm delighted to share my latest A2 Open Category Drone Certification with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Obtaining the EASA A2 Certificate offers several key benefits for photographers in the business, in particular: Enhanced Operational Flexibility: The EASA A2 Certificate allows businesses to operate drones closer to people and in more confined urban environments, which is essential for applications like inspections, deliveries, and media production. This flexibility can lead to more efficient operations and expanded service offerings. Increased Safety and Compliance: The certificate ensures that operators are trained to high standards, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring compliance with EU regulations. This not only enhances safety but also builds trust with clients and stakeholders, who can be assured of the professionalism and reliability of the drone operations. Competitive Advantage: Having certified operators can provide a competitive edge in the market. Clients are more likely to choose businesses that adhere to regulatory standards and demonstrate a commitment to safety and professionalism. This can be a decisive factor in winning contracts and expanding the client base. Cost Efficiency: The ability to operate drones in closer proximity to people and structures can reduce the need for additional safety measures and permits, leading to cost savings. This efficiency can be passed on to clients, offering more competitive pricing for services. Access to New Markets: With the EASA A2 Certificate, businesses can explore new opportunities in sectors that require close-proximity operations, such as real estate, construction, and emergency services. This certification can open doors to new projects and revenue streams that were previously inaccessible. Improved Risk Management: The training and knowledge gained through the certification process enable operators to better assess and mitigate risks, leading to safer and more reliable drone operations. This risk management capability is highly valued by clients, especially in industries where safety is paramount. By obtaining the EASA A2 Certificate, photographers can not only enhance their operational capabilities but also gain a significant edge in a competitive market, ensuring compliance, safety, and client trust.

🚦 VertiMonitor n2 Are you a #drone operator and are planning to catch the 𝟏𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐨 𝐝𝐢 𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚 today through the complex #weather? You’d better bring-up a drone with good tolerance to rain, otherwise you might unable to operate and risk to loose the chance to capture pictures and videos of these cyclists while they ride through the #alps. The 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐨 is a professional cycling's three-week-long Grand Tours and is, after the Tour de France, the second most important stage race in the world. Today's track goes from Selva di Val Gardena/Wolkenstein in Gröden until Passo del Brocon and is characterized by “Intense climbing stage with brutal amount of elevation gain despite its short distance. The route climbs from the start on the Passo Sella, followed by a flat section in the Fassa and Fiemme Valleys all the way to Predazzo” [https://lnkd.in/gcMwFia]. This track goes through an overall height difference of 4,2km and both cyclists, journalists and cameraman will have to deal with complex #weather conditions in these mountains. As a #drone operator, using VertiMonitor (https://lnkd.in/eCe-4qdg) you will be able to enhance your operational success by factoring #weather and specific operational objectives. After selecting route, flight altitude and time window, the operator can select the aircraft(s) form the list and VertiMonitor provides a mission-specific and weather aware go/no go. It also makes it effective to evaluate alternatives including swapping the drone or adapting route and mission parameters. The low rain tolerance drones such as most of the recreational drones are not going to be a good fit today, as shown by the “no go” tag in the VertiMonitor application because along important parts of the track, rain and low visibility are expected which exceed their tolerances. One might think that filming with an helicopter today would blindly be a better idea. It is true that the helicopter performances, particularly in IFR, would allow the helicopter to get a “go” and follow the competition from above (almost) during the entire duration. But, because of the low clouds and higher flying altitude AGL, an helicopter would still have less chances to capture high quality snapshots then a commercial drone with good rain tolerance e.g. DJI Matrice 210. Getting closer to the starting time of the race, at 12:30 local time, and throughout the whole race, the operator can either consult VertiMonitor or to get an automated feed via API to automatically update its analysis based on the latest and most accurate weather information available and make it effective to foresee and adapt flight plans maximising safety and operability. Disclaimer: This post does not want to authorize specific operations but rather shed light on how weather, aircraft performance data and location correlate into a flyability variable.

A Taste of Drone Consultancy in Ethiopia 🌍 In November 2019, I set out to Ethiopia alongside my partner, Austin Brown, a trip facilitated by the U.S. Commercial Service's Gold Key Program. This unique program is designed to unlock international doors for U.S. businesses, offering personalized business matchmaking, introductions to potential partners, and valuable insights into local markets. Our mission was to explore the opportunity of expanding The Global Air Drone Academy, an initiative that allowed us to meet key figures at the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health, the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, among others. It was a great first step, and the beginning of new relationships to develop, and when we returned home to Baltimore, we were ready to capitalize on this opportunity. However, as we navigated through the initial follow-ups and started to draft proposals, we were blindsided by the pandemic, casting a shadow over our plans and putting our new connections and partnerships on an indefinite pause. Though this opportunity didn't unfold as planned, it offered some key insights that I often think about: ✅ Drone Consultancy Is Nuanced: Every client is incredibly unique, emphasizing the need for tailored solutions in drone consultancy. No single approach fits all scenarios. ✅ The Pricing Dance: Finding the right balance between providing value and setting prices is a nuanced art, requiring constant adjustment and negotiation. ✅ Be Ready to Adapt: Flexibility is key; plans often change, and deals are not final until signed. Adaptability ensures resilience and readiness for unexpected shifts. ✅ Delayed Gratification: Patience is crucial in consultancy. Developing meaningful deals and partnerships often takes months or even years, underscoring the importance of long-term vision and persistence. To succeed in drone consultancy, it's essential to understand your market's unique needs, build meaningful relationships, prioritize great branding, and maintain a laser focus on your offer and the steps you take to deliver on it. Every setback is a setup for a comeback. The journey in Ethiopia, though not as expected, was a learning experience and gave us the momentum needed to run drone training programs in Zambia, Kenya, and Nigeria and partnerships with a number of other experts on the continent. 🚀 If you're looking for ways to scale your drone business or consultancy in 2024, check out the free training video I just released (on my profile page) and reach out if you have any questions. #drones #droneconsultant #DroneBusinessMasterminds #dronesforgood #Ethiopia
