When it comes to technology adoption in public safety (which includes starting a drone program), Charles Werner says there are three things that technology has to do.  Value proposition. What does it mean for me, and what's it going to do for me? Cost. Public safety has very limited budgets. The new technology has to be relatively easy to implement into the system. Reliable connectivity plays a critical role in supporting commercial #UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) operations, particularly in scenarios involving #BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) flights. While robust coverage is often assumed in urban and industrialized areas, it raises questions about less-developed regions. We asked some members of our team for some #TipsFromTheField, here's what Paul Dudley had to say: “Get some practice ahead of time, don't make the day you need to gather important data the first day you've tried out your drone. If you know the location you plan to be working in, or find yourself there for some reason, take your drone and flight planning equipment (iPad) and familiarize yourself with the flight environment. Maybe do a test flight with the same parameters you intend to use throughout the season. Learn to fly the drone manually, you may only need to in an emergency but in those cases a little practice goes a long way.
