📢 Exciting News from NAAC! 🎓 NAAC is shifting from its traditional grading system (replacing the current grading system ranging from C to A++) to a new, dynamic accreditation framework. 🚀 🔸 Binary System: Now, HEIs will be classified as either "accredited" or "not accredited," simplifying the process and encouraging widespread participation. 🔸 Levels of Excellence: Accredited institutions will be assessed on a scale from 1 to 5, with Level 5 being the ultimate goal, representing "Institutions of Global Excellence. 📅 Rollout: The binary system will be in place in four months, with the full 5-level grading system operational by December 2024. 🌐 This new approach, inspired by global best practices, is designed to foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement in education. I want to share my thoughts on a recent development in the higher education sector that has caught my attention – the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) temporarily suspending the grading process for approximately 30 institutes across the country.   Earlier, the NAAC Assessment process heavily relied on peer team visits, but now, around 70% of the assessment weightage is allocated to quantitative metrics. This means that documentation alone is thoroughly verified at the backend, bringing about a paradigm shift in the accreditation process.   The recent suspension of grading for 30 institutes by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) brings to light that we may need revision in the present assessment structure. While documentation is crucial, the over-reliance on it could have resulted in discrepancies and possible inflation in grades.   We see a large number of institutions coming forward for NAAC Accreditation. NAAC Accreditation actually gears up quality initiatives in Institutions. At this juncture, a recalibration of assessment process may be crucial. The emphasis should balance between the tried-and-tested peer team visits and technology enabled data verification and validation. HEIs ( Higher Education Institutions) need to align to new processes to achieve a good number of ‘Excellence’, in all metrics. • As such, the new system is not easier and more complex. • Most likely no Experts Visit; Fees will be relatively less. •No CGPA, No Grading; Most likely Metrics are categorized as Good, Concern & Weak.
