As the young doctor entered, she flinched, memories of hospital visits flooding back. But the Doctor's gentle smile and warm eyes offered a different story. He sat, not at the end of the bed, but next to her, asking not just about symptoms, but about her life in general, her fears, and hopes. At that moment, the doctor wasn't just treating an illness; he was treating the person as a whole. This wasn't just his job, it was his calling, rooted in the deep compassion that flows through our society and healthcare system. His empathy allowed him to understand the old lady's anxiety, his respect calmed her nerves, and his genuine care offered comfort. Celebrating Doctors Day! On this Doctors Day, I want to share some reflections from my own journey in medicine: 1. Your Health is Paramount - Over the years, I've seen how crucial it is for everyone to prioritize our own health. It's the cornerstone of a fulfilling life, daily care and self love is essential. Prioritize yourself. 2. Experience vs. Search Engines - In today's digital age, I've noticed that people often rely heavily on internet searches for medical advice. While the internet is a great resource, it can never replace the depth and nuance of professional medical experience and expertise. Trusting your healthcare provider can make a significant difference in your health outcomes.Aligning with patient search results never makes one a better doctor. 3. The Reality of Gratitude - I've received immense love and gratitude from patients and their families, which I deeply cherish. However, it's a reality that in challenging times, these are the first one to blame and leave. Itโs a part of the profession we must navigate with resilience. 4. The Challenge of Familiar Faces - Some of my most challenging patients have been close friends and relatives. Balancing personal relationships with professional responsibilities is often tricky, requiring extra care and understanding. Be you, when comes to relatives and close friends. 5. Unsolicited Advice - A lesson Iโve learned is to never offer medical opinions unless asked. Respecting boundaries is crucial for maintaining trust and professionalism in our relationships. On this special day, let's celebrate the dedication and hard work of doctors everywhere. Happy Doctors Day to all my colleagues who tirelessly work to keep our communities healthy! #DoctorsDay #HealthcareHeroes #PatientCare #MedicalJourney #HealthFirst

Join us for this engaging episode of "Stand Up (for) Doctors!" Supporting doctors; offering hope! Dr Amy-Jo Farrow is an Occupational Health Physician in the U.K., and a burnout coach, helping exhausted doctors thrive. Olivia Morris is the Co-Founder and CEO of Verity Barrington and Doctors Living in Ireland, having been a physician advocate for the past 10 years. We discuss how doctors know about healthy living and what to recommend to their patients, yet they frequently do not take care of themselves in the same way. We dive into some reasons behind that, and how it's almost seen as a "badge of honor" not to take care of one's basic needs during a work shift. That is not sustainable and should not be the culture! We talk about the need to help doctors discover solutions that can be adapted for each physician's unique life. We each share a vulnerable story of how as a physician, a physician's wife, and a healthcare professional, in a time of crisis, how the notion of "the patient always come first," no matter the personal cost, took its toll. Doctors having an identity outside of their primary employment is so important, and can include building a portfolio career, exploring hobbies...whatever brings you joy and gets you energized about life! Message to doctors: Physicians need to practice radical self-compassion. Know that there are options out there, and people who can help you. Never feel like it's just you, it is not, and there is so much support available! Message to patients: If you come across a "grumpy" doctor they may be having a bad day, or missing an important family milestone to be there to care for you. Be compassionate towards another human being, it can make all the difference. Doctors AND patients need to take responsibility to restore the human connection in healthcare! ๐ A Message from Kimberly Warnock, NP-C ๐ "So when I was younger, I think I didn't realize that everybody is going through something. When you grow up in a great home environment, you just expect to go to school and start your career, and everything just kind of keeps moving as it should. But then there was a day that I realized everyone is dealing with something. This realization came with my son's diagnosis, the biggest impactful thing that's happened to my family. Being aware of this as a clinician helps us treat patients better. Nobody has that 'social media perfect' life; most people are dealing with some sort of battle, whether it's physical, mental, or emotional. As a practice, we aim to be a sounding board for these concerns and support our patients through their challenges. As a provider, I want to validate that whatever you're going through is serious and important." At Lake Country Medical Concierge, we understand that everyone has their own battles. We're here to support you, listen to you, and provide the compassionate care you deserve. #RealLifeStories #CompassionateCare #SupportiveHealthcare #LakeCountryMedicalConcierge

Empathy and personal connection in healthcare is profoundly important and can make a massive difference for the patient and their loved ones. Each interaction, whether it's a routine procedure or a critical operation, profoundly impacts the person involved. We must see beyond the clinical details and recognize the individual at the heart of every treatment. Every patient represents a unique story and individual challenges. It's essential to acknowledge their humanity, especially in moments of vulnerability. Understanding and empathy are key. Imagine being in the patient's or a family member's shoesโthis perspective should guide our actions. Alleviating fears isnโt just part of the job; itโs part of showing we care, understanding the emotional journey patients undergo as they face health challenges. Let's commit to treating each patient with the kindness and consideration we would hope for ourselves. Have a great day! #DrSinicropi #Empathy #Kindness #Humanity #People #Leadership #Healthcare #Vulnerability

Came across a meme today that gave me a chuckle, but also got me thinking. It's a witty snapshot of healthcare systems in the UK, US, and Canada, each with its own unique challenge. * ๐ฌ๐ง In the UK, it's the long wait * ๐บ๐ธ In the US, it's the cost * ๐จ๐ฆ And in Canada, it's a bit darker, joking about the extreme as a solution to healthcare accessibility. It's funny until you realize it's not... entirely. These quips hit close to home for many of us, reflecting real frustrations with healthcare access and affordability. Especially the Canadian partโit's a nudge at the serious discussions around Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) and broader healthcare issues. I get it. It's easy to laugh off these systemic challenges when they're wrapped in humor. But behind every joke is a truth that affects real lives. In Canada, the conversation around MAID is complex and charged with emotion, touching on ethics, autonomy, and the value we place on end-of-life care. My team has a YouTube channel (https://lnkd.in/gU9YUMyb) diving into a 14-part series on MAID thatโs really explored nuances of the debate. Itโs making me think hard about how we approach healthcare, compassion, and choice. Would love to hear your thoughts. How do you see our healthcare system? Any experiences or insights you'd like to share? #HealthcareHumor #MAID #HealthcareSystem #DeepDiveDiscussion Source: Turning Point Action ๐ Like | ๐ฌ Comment | โ๏ธ Share

In the demanding world of medicine, where the well-being of others often takes precedence, it's easy for doctors to overlook their own well-being. When we stop to reflect honestly and recognise the barriers inhibiting our self-care practices, we unlock the potential for personal growth and enhanced professional effectiveness. By identifying these obstacles and utilising practical strategies to navigate past them, we set the stage for prioritising our health and well-being. Self-care is a critical component of our professional sustainability. It strengthens our resilience, empowers us with the energy to face challenges, and underpins our ability to deliver compassionate care to those in need. The act of caring for ourselves is not an act of selfishness but a fundamental necessity for career longevity. It ensures that we can continue serving our patients with the dedication and compassion they deserve, grounded in our well-being and happiness. How would you rate your level of self-care in 2024 so far? Share in the comments below. #selfcarejourney #wellbeingmatters #compassionateselfcare #selfawareness
