AMR is a global threat to humans, animals, plants and the environment. Currently 7 lack people die annually due to AMR and it is estimated to increase up to 10 million deaths each year by 2050. AMR is a phenomenon that occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites become resistant and no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder or impossible to treat, increasing spread severe illness and death. Together, we can prevent and control AMR by taking few steps collectively, for example, only using prescribed antibiotics, adopting strict hygienic measures, improving surveillance and strengthening policies, investing in research and development of new antibiotics, vaccines.
