Selective outrage can significantly influence public opinion on geopolitical issues by shaping how people perceive and respond to different events and crises.Selective outrage often involves the selective presentation of information, which can lead to a biased public perception of geopolitical issues. For instance, if the media focuses primarily on human rights violations in one country while ignoring similar violations in another, the public may develop a skewed view of the situation. #Selective outrage

https://lnkd.in/eUd8XBUj "The time has come for a serious discussion on the challenges that war poses and the logic of war poses for the enjoyment of human rights. We need to think about an “agenda to protect human rights in war”.

The document provides an analysis of key theories in international relations and security, focusing on the complexities of public policy making. It highlights Rational Choice Theory, which examines the role of incentives and calculations in decision-making but is critiqued for its simplicity. Pluralist Theory is also discussed, emphasizing the distribution of power among various interest groups and the importance of citizen participation and lobbying in policy formation. #InternationalRelations #SecurityAnalysis #PolicyMaking #RationalChoiceTheory #PluralistTheory #PublicPolicy #TheoreticalFrameworks #PoliticalScience

#politics #unitedstates What should an American do to defuse the high conflict which New York Times journalist Amanda Ripley says is like in Venezuela when it collapsed? When the economy is good, what can possibly go wrong? The financial markets are soaring, interest rates are reasonable, unemployment is at an all time low, wages and savings are higher than before, and China and Russia or nobody can reasonably cause economic panic. 9/11/2001 was a nice September morning. The Bush administration which was sworn in that January was looking for ways to be interesting, largely focused on a humble post-Cold War foreign policy as campaigned on by George W. Bush after it became necessary for the Supreme Court to resolve the 2000 election. Then all hell broke loose and the United States and the world are not the same again. With the political obsession over securing global democracy, there are powerful domestic forces who want to draw the United States into a world war, playing to the predispositions of both the political parties, including Trump on Israel and Iran if not on Russia. This time another 9/11 could potentially get very interesting, like in the Israeli kibbutz, once again a massive “failure” of U.S. intelligence. Such masochistic “failures”, akin to Opus Dei Christian corporal mortification, to engender democracy abroad to ultimately relax restrictions on domestic freedoms is convoluted gymnastics in clandestine operations, not worth anyone’s trouble. I would say, therefore, write a letter to the White House, Democratic National Committee (DNC), and Republican National Committee (RNC) and to your respective state and local political organizers that you want neither Joe Biden nor Donald Trump to be on the 2024 ballot for president, and that you want a healthy and sane primary season and for the United States to exit from Ukraine and Middle East. This is approximately 70 million letters to the Democrat Party and 70 million letters to the Republican Party, 1 for each tax payer, and about as many votes cast in the 2020 election. You have a choice and you can exercise its power. You are not helpless because you run the government, not Washington.
I’ve been reading a lot of terrifying articles lately, and I’m guessing you have, too. They warn of a coming constitutional crisis in America, a possible genocide in the Middle East and a surge in homicides in Washington, DC, where I live. Among other things. So as we consume the news and face the risks that will define 2024, it is also worth asking ourselves: how do we want to BE in those conflicts? I wonder that every day. To date, the best answer I have heard comes from a journalist named Victor Hugo Febres. I interviewed him a while back when I was writing about how journalists should cover politics in a hyper-polarized country, and I’ve never forgotten his 3 rules for staying sane in an insane world...
