Here we were —> A total spend of over 2.8M on our salaries alone. A highly educated and experienced executive leadership team. Charged with massive responsibility to ensure a healthy learning organization. Sitting in meetings daily with each other. Yet, when I looked around, I saw and heard leaders: ➨ Jockeying for positioning ➨ Insisting on undermining each other ➨ Passive aggressive control tactics in favor of self-preservation Two decades with three different executive leadership teams in three different organizations made it clear to me. I decided not to try again with a 4th organization, so I crafted an exit strategy instead. Began to build a plan where I could: ➨ Honor my energy ➨ Create my destiny ➨ Respect my intuition Some didn’t understand And, honestly, some still don’t. But I knew NOT leaving would be harder than working with another team in the broken education system. So I overcame the objections and choose to build a life that serves me. I was often asked if I would consider moving from teaching into administration. It didn’t take me long to realize that was a hard “no.” I saw enough of what went on at the top to know that wasn’t for me. Yet, I have MANY friends who did go back to get their certs….many friends who did move into administration…and yet they are all still miserable. They are now just making more money being miserable. It’s not a quick fix. You need to make bold jumps to find happiness - that applies to life even beyond your job!
