A few quick thoughts after using the Apple Vision Pro for a few days now. 1.) The Apple Vision Pro is the ENIAC of spatial computing. Today it is hot, heavy, fickle, and largely novelty. In the future, once the technology can pack down into a pair of glasses, it will be the way computing just happens. 2.) The Meta Quest did a lot of these UI things first, but Apple has done almost all of them better. There is a learning curve but it is not long. 3.) One thing you start to realize is how quickly your eyes move on to the next thing when navigating. I "click" on the wrong things fairly often because I'm not looking at the right thing when I click. 4.) The subtle details are incredible. I watched a random music video while sitting in the Joshua Tree environment and the colors from the video lit the rocks. 5.) Using the Apple Vision Pro as an external monitor for your laptop is the best of all worlds. Connecting is so intuitive. Just look at your laptop and click Connect and it just works. 6.) Spatial video seems cool, but all of those panoramas you have shot and collected over the years are way cooler when viewed in immersive mode. I could not believe the flood of memories that those brought back.

Much of my time these days is spent working to bring the power of intelligent data-driven automation to retailers. But amidst all my recent focus on data and AI, I haven't lost sight of the continued evolution of XR tech. I remain stalwart in my belief that the logical future of computing is immersive and that seamless integration with the world around us will eventually be the norm. I also think there's a lot to be excited about with the introduction of Apple Vision Pro. I'm eager to hack around with it. As I wait patiently for notification that my pre-order has shipped, it strikes me that some of the reasons I think this device could represent a watershed moment for the space have little to do with the technology itself... #visionpro #spatialcomputing #mixedreality #augmentedreality #virtualreality #metaverse https://lnkd.in/dzXZc7Ha

A must-watch/read review to understand the quantum leap Apple just landed for AR/VR & spatial computing. “In a very real way, this is an iPad on your face.” - which brings the familiarity of iPad and access to the App Store - which will unlock 3rd party developer innovations. It’s not surprising that the killer feature is immersion in videos shot on the iPhone 15 Pro. Ironically, it’s disappointing that there isn’t yet the ability to share your experience with others - “it’s a lonely experience”…which perpetuates social media’s wall of disconnect from the real world. But I’m hopeful this will change in v.next. Eventual implications for ag? Immersion in digital twins from your chair; capability to overlay real-world historical and projected economics and what-ifs across fields of your farms. But forget about seeing this tech ON a farm anytime soon. What do you think? Walt Duflock Rob Tiffany⚡️ 📊 Dan Maycock https://lnkd.in/gSsf5aGw

🍥With a focus on Apple’s design implications rather than just weight and quality, this review of the #Apple #VisionPro from the Verge is quite insightful. 📹 It is easy to agree that seeing the physical world directly with our own eyes is something we all prefer over seeing it through cameras - especially as throwing even this much money and computing power on the latter still shows limitations in camera and display technology. ⌚️ It is also easy to agree that it is indeed strange Apple isn’t allowing the use of the latest Apple Watch as a controller although it supports pinching gestures without the need for camera tracking. Is Apple afraid it would expose the limitation of visual camera tracking too much? 💪 Ultimately, I believe visual hand tracking is a dead end and will be abandoned in favour of armband based tracking, such as the Apple Watch. Meta is expected to release an electromyographic armband that detects electrical impulses sent from your brain to your hands, and might actually leapfrog Apple at that point. 👀 Gaze control, however, will likely divide opinion. I firmly believe simply looking at something to interact with it is not a super power but instead a super limitation. Let me ask you this: Do you watch the steering wheel or the road when you are driving a car? Apple is - figuratively speaking - forcing you to watch the steering wheel. For the same reason, I avoid VR apps that force you to use head based directional movement like the plague and always use controller based movement. The simple reason is that I want to scan the surroundings and plan ahead rather having to constantly stare in the same direction like a zombie. 🔛 Humans are naturally multitasking in the simplest sense, allowing us to simultaneously move and do other things. But with gaze control, Apple is forcing us to become single-taskers. 🤯 And although I understand that content providers want this, the fact that photo-taking can be disabled for certain types of content is not only annoying but downright illusion breaking. There will be no seamless integration of digital and physical space if you no longer seamlessly can take photos of your surroundings. ☕️ A true spatial computing paradigm shift implies frictionless blending of digital and physical ! https://lnkd.in/dsYU7cRb

🍎👓 Apple Vision Pro Review: A Glimpse into the Future or a Step Too Far? 🌟 Apple's Vision Pro is capturing everyone's attention, promising to blend apps and information seamlessly into our daily lives. The idea? To augment reality, whether you're at work, doing chores, or spending time with family. 🤔 But, here's the catch: While the Vision Pro shows moments of brilliance, it's not without its compromises. There are many expectations today for #WWDC. Apple will play its #AI card, which will not come without controversy. This announcement might position Apple as a growth company again and make it a contestant in the #AIrace. ---- Or not? ----- As a #VisionPro owner, I was really hoping for a unique #Spatial live experience at WWDC, but unfortunately, it didn't materialize. On the other hand, #visionOS2 is here. I'm excited to hear about more hardware integrations, like #ApplePencil and #AppleWatch, but I will probably be disappointed, too. Also, I'm expecting more VisionPro emulator enhancements, such as hand simulation, and richer gesture tracking. Now #Siri, this can be a game-changer for Apple. Every Apple device has Siri, even the VisionPro. An overhaul of Siri is long overdue. iWork with #AI features. A lot of people are getting priced out of #microsoft #AI products like #Copilot. Apple has a chance to grow its software subscription model with this. Of course, tons of developer features and iOS updates. Let's see if Apple can redefine innovation again and take a bold step forward in the AI landscape at #WWDC. #WWDC2024 #AppleAI #userinterface #VisionPro2 #Siti #AI #iPhone #iOS18 #macOS #appleintelligence
