This is the most objective article I’ve seen in a while about fitness from the entrepreneurial perspective (and it specifically mentions several franchise players) Well done Spencer Jakab Everyone has their own opinion of fitness as a business and franchise. It’s probably the most polarizing type of franchise out there (people either love it or hate it). Regardless of the side of the fence you’re on, this article offers interesting insight supported by data. It also touches on the Ozempic craze and how it may not be affecting gym memberships as you may think it would. I believe it's available without a WSJ subscription.

Bringing GLP-1 programs to America's gyms | Sharing 40 years of knowledge scaling fitness franchises
I'm gonna tell you more about my first business bringing recurring revenue to gyms, because it’s very similar to what I’m doing today. It was '88 and I was an enterprising young gentleman trying to make it in California. At the time, gym owners were running their businesses on 3x5 cards. You'd buy a day or week pass, and that'd be it. "Hope you come back next week!" I knew this had to change. The gym owners definitely didn’t…. I drove across SoCal and knocked on 100 freakin’ doors before someone got my vision. Slowly, the gyms started coming around. Here’s what was happening: → The first big chains adopted recurring revenue → This made them attractive to investors → Private equity starts consolidating Smaller gyms needed predictable revenue in order to sell to bigger gyms. Cause back then it was grow, exit, or get crushed. This tiny shift in thinking about payments helped them grow and exit. Today I'm on a similar mission, but with GLP-1s: → Give smaller operators the same tools as the big boys to compete and retain customers Only today, the gym owners see it clearly! Btw, we just launched with Texas Family Fitness (awesome clubs) with many more coming on board. — What do you think? Can integrating cutting-edge medicine and longevity tools be the next "recurring revenue" in the gym industry?

𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐3: 2022 was definitely a rocky road for the fitness industry. At least two major franchises ducked under Chapter 11 protection between March and December. Many more small independent studios and gyms folded, especially in states where stringent lockdowns were imposed. But despite all the draconian measures, the general effect of the lockdowns was to push the fitness industry in an entirely new and profitable direction. “We are on a mission to dramatically reduce operating expenses in health and fitness businesses globally with our products and services, if we don’t do that we don’t deserve to win” -Zac Joyce Something Zac said yesterday that I have been thinking about. Never has the health and fitness franchise space been more competitive. There is still heaps of fruit in this market but its not hanging as low as it was 5 years ago. The fruit is hidden behind effort and low opex Virtual Spotter #VirtualSpotter #FitForms #CloudTasker #FitLeads

A solid investment in the fitness world is more than the right location or the hottest new workout trend. 📈 It's about securing a proven business model that offers both financial stability and growth. That's exactly what our client achieved with the sale of their Club Pilates franchise for a stunning $1.7 million! Franchising, especially with established brands like Club Pilates, might just be the safest and most lucrative bet in today's fitness market. 👟 These franchises are turnkey solutions that come with brand recognition, operational systems, and a loyal customer base—all of which culminate in significant investment security and high resale values. ✅ Our recent listings valued at $2 million and $4 million are drawing serious attention, underscoring the strong market demand for well-managed fitness businesses. Pilates and wellness/recovery businesses are HOT right now. We offer complimentary - and confidential - consultations, whether you’re interested in purchasing or making a sale. How Many Members Do You Need at Your Gym? Client count does matter, but only in relation to your model and your other key performance indicators, like ARM and LEG. As a general rule, Two-Brain gyms first target 150 clients with an ARM of $205 and a LEG of 13 months. Those are great starting points that will allow the owner to earn $100,000 a year. If you don’t have a clearly defined business model, use those targets to start. Of course, we adjust the targets for our clients based on their business models and goals. Some models require more clients, while others require fewer. We also prioritize high-value clients and industry-leading retention (the industry average is 7.8 months; Two-Brain clients average 20.7 months). Every month, Two-Brain compiles a leaderboard of the top-performing gyms so we can find out what the best gyms are doing—and tell you. In December 2023, we focused on average revenue per member (ARM) at more than 1,000 gyms worldwide. ARM measures what clients are paying in return for the value a gym provides, and the businesses on our leaderboard provide a ton of value. The No. 1 gym earned just shy of US$800 per client per month—and that’s a rolling three-month average, not just a one-hit wonder. https://lnkd.in/gwsv9BGr #crossfitaffiliates #gymbusiness #fitnessbusiness #yogabusiness #fitbiz #yogabiz #gymbiz #gymowner #fitnessbusiness #gymowners #businessquestions #twobrainbusiness #entrepreneurship #businesshelp #freeresources #ceo #profit #revenue #retention #businesshelp #businessmentorship #gymownerlife
