To create and sustain a healthy work environment it's crucial to make each team member feel valued and appreciated for their unique contributions. Below are a few suggestions on how you can celebrate your #team on Employee Appreciation Day: • Express thanks: Take a moment to thank each team member, highlighting specific accomplishments they have made and expressing your gratitude for their hard work. This can be done in-person, via email, or you can write a handwritten note.  • Public acknowledgement: Acknowledge the team all at once with a shout out during a team meeting. Acknowledge the team accomplishments and express gratitude for their hard work and dedication.  • Facilitate peer-to-peer recognition: Encourage team members to recognize each other. Add a “kudos” section to team meetings where employees can recognize each other and share appreciation for their colleagues. Microsoft used to provide participation reporting that provided teams with real-time feedback that enabled teams to drive response rate. Following a tooling change, that data isn't available (to ICs at least). Initially I thought this was a critical oversight, but I'm increasingly convinced that it was a solid decision. When improving culture, signal quality is really important. the best signals are those that strongly communicate what we're getting right, or that communicate where we need to make up ground. People who submit the survey for the sake of submission are mearly muddling the waters - they are contributing noise that is devoid of signal. The irony, is that an honest participation rate is a valuable signal in and of itself. Submission of the survey is a refection of trust - employees trust that their opinion will be considered and drive action. Low rates are a strong indication that people don't believe change is possible, which has many implications for a team's ability to execute.

Shifting Perspectives on Workplace Celebrations In many workplaces, it's common to see farewells marked with elaborate send-offs and heartfelt goodbyes. Yet, when it comes to celebrating promotions, new hires, or other achievements, the fanfare often falls short. This begs the question: Why the disparity in recognition? Could it be a reflection of underlying cultural norms within organizations? Perhaps it's time to reevaluate our approach to workplace celebrations and consider the impact they have on morale, engagement, and overall company culture.
