This is Great Britain, but it also could be the US, Italy, Hungary or even the Netherlands. I read George Orwell in this. Animal Farm. 'All animals are equal, but some are more equal then others'. This is one of the reasons we should not trust our chosen leaders only based on what they say. We need to control what they do. To do that properly we need an independent press and journalistic investigators; a transparant political and bureaucratic system; and an independent juridicial system in case some politicians ignore the rules and step over the mark. If we don't, there is every chance they will abuse our trust. Just because they can. And when caught, even can get away with it (e.g. by donating as in this case - one of us would be fined). It is sad, but power corrupts (in a lot of cases). And we, the people, have the duty to inform ourselves, so we are able to make our own judgement based on evidence, in stead of promises, rumors and hear saying. Democracy and the rule of law aren't certainties. They are only achieved and maintained by believing in, working for and protecting them. https://lnkd.in/euGvRXdg

So why support kinship care week? The majority of children outside of parental care are being cared for in Kinship care. Kinship care can help keep families together, providing support to parents when they are unable to care for their children. kinship care is often the preferred form of care for both children and caregivers. Despite this it is often poorly supported. Kinship care families have a variety of support needs from financial to emotional. Help us raise awareness on the amazing work kinship carers are doing and the need to support them better ensuring better outcomes for children. #GlobalKinshipCareWeek

Congratulations to Family for Every Child for organising the first-ever Global Kinship Care week. Children who cannot be looked after by their parents often end up living with relatives or family friends, this is known as Kinship Care. Family for Every Child state approximately 1 in 10 children are living in Kinship Care, but it is poorly supported in many countries. If supported properly, Kinship Care can keep more children connected to safe families, ensure they remain in touch with their own culture, and keep other alternative care systems from being overwhelmed and underfunded. Earlier this year, Family for Every Child released How to support Kinship Care: Lessons learnt from around the world. Through conversations with hundreds of practitioners and organisations around the world, this report presents what has been done to date and what can be done to support kinship care on a global scale. What is the Red List Rescue and How Can You Become Part of the Team? Every year, around 920,000 red listed animals in US shelters are euthanized due to overcrowding, lack of adoption, and too few available fosters. Of these, it is estimated that 390,000 are dogs and 530,000 are cats (ASPCA). Animals who are currently on (or in consideration for) red lists must be adopted or fostered by a set date. Otherwise, they will be euthanized. And while shelters generally do what they can to delay such decisions, until more fosters step up and adoptions take place, thousands of animals will continue to unnecessarily die. Since beginning the Red List Rescue efforts, the Frost Team in collaboration with members of the Red List Rescue members, a total of 14 dogs have been saved and adopted into their forever homes! EMPOWERING DIGNITY: A Heartfelt Outreach at the Leprosarium Oke-Igbala I had the privilege of conducting an outreach program at the Leprosarium in Kwara state, an experience that left an indelible mark on my heart. In a world often preoccupied with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it's easy to overlook those who need our care and compassion the most. My mission was simple yet profound: to promote personal hygiene and dignity among the residents of the Leprosarium. I distributed dignity bags filled with essential toiletries such as bathing soap, sponges, laundry powder, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. These seemingly small items carry immense significance in restoring a sense of pride and self-worth to individuals often marginalized by society. But it didn't stop there. Recognizing the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty, I packed the items in backpacks that doubled as school bags for the children of the lepers. It was heartwarming to witness the joy and gratitude on their faces as they received these simple yet invaluable gifts. In addition to hygiene kits, I provided food and drinks, offering nourishment for both body and soul. It was a humbling experience to be able to make a tangible difference in the lives of these resilient individuals. As I reflect on the outreach at the Leprosarium, I am reminded of the profound impact that acts of kindness can have on the lives of others.
