The first day of the CCUS ZEN event “How to make a CCUS value chain fly” has finished and we had amazing discussions. I presented a proposal for a CCUS value chain concept for the Baltic region case study and will leave some key numbers below: - 3 countries involved (Germany, Denmark and Sweden) - 33 emitters selected with an approximate capture rate of 19 million tonnes of CO2 per year - 8 CO2 storage sites which sum over 900 million tonnes of mean storage capacity - 6 CO2 utilisation projects - Up to 2000 km of pipelines - 5 harbours selected to support CO2 shipping It is without doubt an ambitious, large scale and cross border project, which aims to represent a variety of solutions for CCUS decarbonisation. Our focus will now shift to an economic assessment, and developing a solid business strategy for the case study. I look forward to start the next phase, but before that, I plan to enjoy the second day of the event, where we will continue to discuss how to make a CCUS network fly ✈️ #ccus #carbonmanagement #energytransition #sustainability
Leandro Henrique C. from Ramboll is presenting case studies for #CCUS development in the Baltic Sea region, encompassing emission sources, storage sites, utilisation options, and transport infrastructure. The cases cover 3 countries, 33 emitters with up to 19Mt CO₂ per annum, 8 geological storage sites with over 900 million tonnes of mean capacity.

Exploring the monetisation of construction-stored carbon, if done effectively, fairly and transparently, could help overcome the green premium associated with biobased construction materials -- and we're pleased to share some progress in this area from our Built by Nature Fund grantees at Climate Cleanup and our Frontrunner and biobased construction leaders Ballast Nedam Development. The two have signed a collaboration agreement for the carbon accounting of three development projects and launched the world’s first Construction Stored Carbon Credits. The quantification, verification and certification of the carbon credits will be coordinated through Oncra -- an Open Natural Carbon Removal Accounting framework that enables the removal and storage of carbon dioxide through nature-based solutions. Find the full announcement and media release here: https://lnkd.in/gjCK_8Pc Pictured here at the launch announcement (main image, left to right) are Sven Jense, founder and director of Climate Cleanup Foundation; Rosa Bos, project developer at Ballast Nedam; Onno Dwars, CEO of Ballast Nedam, and Sacha Brons, Head of Construction Stored Carbon at Climate Cleanup Foundation. #decarbonisation #biobasedmaterials #carbonaccounting

Great initiative - monetary awards for carbon stored in buildings are much needed. Only when the embodied carbon of different building materials are priced in appropriately, can we expect construction companies and developers to make a genuine effort to reduce the carbon emissions of the built environment. There is a second part to this - current biomass subsidies mean that burning wood is incentivised over the use in construction. While the use of biomass as fuel is preferable to burning fossil fuels, it yields lower carbon benefits than using the wood in construction (and yes, some of the biomass would be usable as building materials!). Monetarily rewarding use of wood in construction would level the playing field and ensure carbon-efficient use of our forest resources.

Great piece by Walid Al Saqqaf - Rebalance Earth brought to my attention by the wonderful and dedicated Kate Terriere. It is very simple - Earth is our biggest asset, so invest in it. Companies: you can’t have healthy profits without healthy global consumerism (and all that goes with it), and you don’t get that without a healthy global population …and they/we all need a healthy planet. Without a healthy planet, the dominoes just fall one by one in a predictable sequence. The first rule of investment is protect your capital, right? If we kill the planet then all that capital dies with it. It’s quite straightforward really, isn’t it? #nature #planetaryhealth Richard Hixson

Couldn't agree more Walid Al Saqqaf - Rebalance Earth 👏 "nature is our global infrastructure" - an investible asset class that delivers a win win for us all. Nature based solutions make business sense, help protect our planet, and enhance the resilience of our economy. #nature

Lars Aagaard, The Danish Minister of Climate, Energy, and Utilities, joined our CEO to take the first steps in the world's first full-scale carbon capture and storage projects. With them were the Head of Microsoft Denmark and the mayors of the two municipalities in which the projects will be built. This is a very proud moment, not just for Denmark but for Ørsted whose position as world leader of sustainable, renewable energy and a guide towards net-zero emissions is stronger than ever. #orsted #renewableenergy #netzeroemissions
Breaking ground on Denmark's first full-scale carbon capture project! We’ve begun the construction of our two carbon capture (CCS) facilities designed to capture and store carbon emissions from the woodchip-fired Asnæs Power Station in Kalundborg and the straw-fired unit at Avedøre Power Station in Greater Copenhagen. The carbon capture project is expected to capture around 430,000 tonnes of biogenic CO2 annually, making a substantial contribution to Denmark's climate targets for 2025 and 2030. Thank you to our partners from Aker Carbon Capture, Northern Lights JV, and Microsoft. And a big thank you to Lars Aagaard, Danish Minister of Climate, Energy & Utilities, and to Søren Friis Trebbien and Martin Damm, mayors of the two hosting municipalities, for joining our groundbreaking ceremony this week.
