What kind of vaccines are the kids to receive? If it's the ones on the schedule then it's free especially in government owned facilities but in private it's NOT free because they too may have paid to secure the vaccines and maintain cold chain using electricity powered refrigerator as against solar powered refrigerator. If the vaccines aren't on the schedule then you will have to pay heavily because the producers of the vaccines have left Nigeria, producers like GSK, Sanofi etc manufacturers of MMR, Typhim, twinrix etc have all gone and to secure their vaccines these days aren't easy and also costly because of logistics and middlemen and that's if you even see the vaccines in the first place and still within usable periods. So if the bill you received came from private hospital, then it's in very much order!!! About the people in the rural areas, all fingers aren't equal they will for sure stick with the on the schedule vaccines which are free.

Immunization for children is free at government facilities and primary health care centres across Nigeria. Private facilities charge for these vaccines because they purchase them without government subsidies. To avoid these costs, I recommend visiting your nearest government clinic or primary health care centre for free immunization services. Or if you have a HMO, they can cover for the cost in a private facility.

Dear Dr, Thanks for bringing this to our notice and congratulations on your twins🍾. However, I would like to touch on some things you said in passing. Firstly, there are no plans to increase under mortality, no deliberate attempt to start claiming outbreaks and finally there is no political undertone to this. In terms of immunization coverage, I think we are still trying. The COVID vaccination drive also shifted attention from routine universal immunization Secondly, It depends on where you have chosen to vaccinate your babies. To the best of my knowledge, vaccination is free of charge in government-owned healthcare facilities and chargeable in a private or even public-private setting. Lastly, In your previous immunizations, have you been paying for immunization services? Then if yes, you subscribed to privately managed healthcare facilities. Tagging the FMOH should also accompany the facility that charges for the immunization services and subsequently I believe the issue would be addressed by the FMOH.

This is shocking, to say the least. Something must be wrong somewhere. Immunization is expected to be free(in Government facilities) Where exactly did this happen?

Maybe you should try government hospitals, it has always been free, my 2nd baby just turned 16months and her last immunization was free

Thank you For sharing This is very sad to hear Immunization is very important to help children build immunity against certain diseases that causes child mortality. I feel child vaccination should be free and accessible to all children whether in rural or urban areas nationwide. How can children be immunized at 233,000🥺 that’s bad. Our governing bodies need to do better.
