🇺🇸 In the world of entrepreneurship, the negotiation process is often seen as a battleground where each party vies for the best deal. However, what if I told you that the true art of negotiation lies in creating value for all parties involved rather than merely pushing for your own advantage? One of the pivotal lessons I’ve learned comes from Chris Voss's "Never Split the Difference," where he emphasizes the importance of empathy. When negotiating, take a moment to understand the other party's perspective, their needs, and their goals. This doesn't just make them feel heard; it sets the stage for a collaborative environment. For instance, in a recent contract negotiation with a supplier, instead of leading with our demands, we initiated a conversation about their challenges. By doing so, we were able to craft a deal that not only met our needs but also addressed their concerns, leading to a long-term partnership. Additionally, in "Decisive" by Chip Heath and Dan Heath, the authors delve into the decision-making process. They advocate for a structured approach, one that includes considering multiple options and perspectives before arriving at a decision. Take the example of launching a new product: before diving in, gather feedback from diverse stakeholders—this can range from your sales team to actual customers. This multifaceted approach ensures that you’re not just making decisions in a vacuum; instead, you’re leveraging collective insights to enhance your product's viability. Moreover, Robert Cialdini in "Pre-Suasion" discusses the power of setting the stage before the actual negotiation begins. The context in which a negotiation occurs can significantly influence the outcomes. Before starting discussions, create an environment of trust and positivity. Perhaps this means sharing success stories of past collaborations or even discussing shared values, which can pave the way for smoother negotiations. To summarize: Negotiation isn't merely about winning; it’s about building relationships and creating value for all parties involved. By practicing empathy, using a structured decision-making process, and setting a positive context, we can transform how we negotiate and collaborate. As you embark on your next negotiation, remember to create an environment where everyone feels valued. This could well be the key to achieving outcomes that not only satisfy your goals but also foster lasting partnerships. #Negotiation #Entrepreneurship #Leadership #BusinessStrategy #Collaboration Books references / Amazon Link: "Never Split the Difference" by Chris Voss : https://amzn.to/3VivnJo "Decisive" by Chip Heath and Dan Heath: https://amzn.to/48U3ESD "Pre-Suasion" by Robert Cialdini : https://amzn.to/3IBO7MC Illustration credits :

Open Communication: Communicate the company’s vision and goals clearly and create an environment where team members feel comfortable sharing ideas, feedback, and concerns without fear of retribution. Diversity and Inclusion: Promote a team culture of diversity and inclusion. Respect and value the differences each team member brings to the table. Professional Development: Invest in your team’s growth by providing opportunities for professional development. This could include training programs, workshops, or mentoring. Team Building: Organize team-building activities that foster collaboration and camaraderie. These activities can strengthen relationships and improve teamwork. Healthy Work-Life Harmony: Encourage a healthy work-life harmony. Respect personal time and avoid overburdening your team with excessive work. Navigating business partnerships can sometimes feel like trying to herd cats at a pet adoption fair—messy, stressful, and a little hilarious. If you've ever thought your professional collaborations could use a more streamlined approach, McKinsey recently published an article that breaks down the essentials of managing complex business partnerships. Here’s a slice of what they dive into: - Communication is Key: Think of it like a dance. If one partner is off-beat, chaos ensues. Regular check-ins and clear channels can help keep everyone in sync and minimize dreaded misunderstandings. - Aligning Goals: It’s important to remember that success is not a one-size-fits-all shirt. Ensuring that all parties have aligned objectives can transform any partnership from a potential dress size argument to a sweet fit that flaunts everyone's assets. - Flexibility Matters: Business is like a game of chess; sometimes you need to adjust your strategy as the board changes. Being open to adapting your approach can lead to more innovative solutions. - Trust-building Activities: No, it's not mandatory to have trust falls at the next meeting (unless that's your thing). But team-building exercises can really help solidify those fragile bonds that keep collaboration flowing. - Learning from Experience: Just like you wouldn’t eat a dubious-looking leftover, it’s crucial to analyze what partnerships worked and which ones… well, didn’t. Gather insights and apply them to future collaborations to avoid stepping in the same mess twice. If these insights resonate with you, check out the article to learn how implementing structured management can turn your business partnerships from chaotic to cohesive. Just remember, smoother sailing often starts on the shore of good communication! https://lnkd.in/g9jhCEGm

Partnership Transformation Coach to Tech Companies. On a mission to help you Organise and Scale your business to Profit with Partnerships.
After years developing partnerships, I had a revelation. Struggling to put my finger on 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 between companies which 𝘸𝘪𝘯, and those which 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘭 with partnerships. I worked through all the business approaches, methodologies and more, but I wasn't convinced I had the answer. Then I started to consider that partnerships do not just exist in business. Partnerships are everywhere. They are the very essence of who we are, our existence. Our friends, spouses (who we call partners), our bodies and of course even the planet we call home. All the same mindset. All arrangements with mutual benefit. The it struck me. Yes, business methodologies are critical. But at it's most fundamental, 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘚𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 is about 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙚𝙩. If you want your partnerships to succeed. You need the right mindset. It's not about you, it's not about your product. It's about making something greater. And how you organise your business is key to making that happen. Do that, and your business will scale. And not just mindset as an individual. It's 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 as well: Corporate Ego is a death knell to partnerships. (More on what I call Corporate Ego another day) Hereon in, I will talk about 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁. In three parts: 1. Partnership : Business (how to organise your business to scale profit) 2. Partnership : Mind and Body (the occasional piece reflecting on looking after ourselves for performance in business) 3. Partnership : Earth (because this is the existential question) Why this approach? Because 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘦𝘵 pervades (spreads through) all our lives. It is our values, our outlook. Whilst we should aspire to a life | work balance, the truth is we are not split in terms of our values and outlook (or at least we probably shouldn't be). The posts will be practical, business focused, and within the context of 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁. The focus will be 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴. The content will be about 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴. Let's share, learn and work together and make 2024 an amazing year! #partnerships #growth #strategy
