Sustainability means many things to many businesses. For the hardware and building supply industry, it’s not only an opportunity to win loyalty from customers, it’s a chance to plant seeds for future customers and future savings. Home Depot is out to produce 100% renewable energy for all its facilities. Their projects represent a continued commitment to leverage roof space for solar generation in Home Depot’s renewable energy program. The installations contribute to the company’s goal to produce or procure 100 percent renewable energy by 2030 equivalent to the electricity needs for all its facilities.

That I am a sports enthusiast is no news for those who know me but I'll admit to have been caught off guard with this one. Don't get me wrong, it's great news!! The power of representation to the sustainability agenda is huge! And the Super Bowl certainly has the global presence to push for a much needed change. From the millionaires flying in to watch the match in their private jets, the gigantic amount of waste generated, significant carbon footprint in advertising, are all examples that make the "unsustainability" of it all very impressive. It will be insanely challenging to go green with an event such as the Super Bowl, with over 115 million viewers in the US in 2023. Nevertheless, we should celebrate small victories, right? And for the first time ever, over 621k solar panels in the Nevada desert were used to power 100% of the stadium in Las Vegas, with its roof also made from a recyclable plastic material that provides climate adaptability, insulation, self-cleaning and durability. Furthermore, they tackled the waste issue, so instead of ending up in landfills, around 12k pounds of food waste will be collected and donated to local live-stock farms and used to feed the animals. Amazing, isn't it? #Sustainability #ESG #SocialResponsibility #EnvironmentalResponsibility #RenewableEnergy

I bet when you think “Super Bowl”, ESG or sustainability are not the first things that come to mind! The most watched sporting event with over 110MM viewers, the Super Boel comes with not-so-surprising unsustainable statistics: -private jets in excess of 1,000 flying to Las Vegas (and cue in Taylor Seift jokes from the comments section) -estimated spend of 200MM spend on F&B by fans -11MM kw/hrs energy consumed by watching the Super Bowl -35k tonnes of CO2 generated from events like NFL and NBA from waste to energy -2,000 tonnes of food waste -energy consumer by watchingSuper Bowl, Halftime show… And so on But what was surprising (at least to me) is to read on initiatives taken by SuperBowl to be the greenest yet: -more than 600K solar panels, powering the stadium -roof made from a recyclable plastic material -12,000 LBs of food waste to be collected and donated to local live-stock farms -NFL green initiative implemented last year from tree planning to reforestation -initiatives towards cleaner air -waste management and zero waste initiatives -certified carbon credits to offset emissions caused by flying to the event All steps should be celebrated towards better future, and it opens up so many opportunities for open-source cross industry collaborations. While for brands who monitor social media, the engagement, commercial comments are of the top interest, those who dig deeper might find conversations about ESG being very small and dismissive, and therefore deprioritize them….but for those who want to be ahead of the pack, events like this might open up interesting opportunities if they truly bake in sustainability agendas in their executions #ESG #sustainability #Superbowl #SF49ers https://lnkd.in/gr9An4eV

This is so refreshing to hear. "Even companies without Walmart’s huge global footprint can study what the retailer’s done for ideas. Start with “the math of what’s the most important thing for [you] to tackle” and where you can “get the biggest gains” for the “energy” you put into it." Could not agree more with this and for most of the industries, timely maintenance for their motor driven machinery (that consumes on an average >50% of their total energy consumption in the manufacturing), can be the most imp thing to tackle as they can get both reliability and energy efficiency together. Our behaviour towards timely maintenance of electric motor driven machinery can rival the numbers from renewable energy sectors like Hydropower, Tidal power etc. Interested to know more?
