Interesting insights on how US utilities are preparing for today's solar eclipse. According to a Renewable Energy World article, utilities are taking different approaches to manage the solar eclipse induced reduction in utility scale solar generation, vs. residential and C&I solar generation. The rapid growth of solar generation in the ERCOT grid is beginning to reshape the energy landscape in Texas. According to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), solar power contributed 32.4 TWh to the grid in 2023, accounting for 7.29% of the annual total.
