The Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management is resulting in transformative change across tailings management, governance, monitoring and oversight. It is also catalysing collaboration between tailings management, social performance, environmental, and engineering professionals to help strengthen management, oversight and accountability.
Implementation is not a quick or simple process. It demands a high level of sustained effort over time. This means we need to continually look to the future, building deep expertise on tailings management both with within companies and the consulting community. This collaboration between ICMM members Newmont Corporation, Freeport-McMoRan and Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) for the Jobs of Tomorrow series gives an excellent insight into what is a fascinating area of mining.
