#India: Women leading the way to agricultural resilience. Meet Radha, a leader in her community, who empowers women in #agriculture through knowledge sharing and collective action. Inspired by her mother-in-law's activism against caste discrimination, Radha helped create a community of 30 members, each working with 15 women, to improve farming practices in the arid landscape of Kabirnagar village. Through education and collaboration with our partner UNNATI, Radha's community is breaking barriers. They are improving soil fertility by planting fruit trees, which are drought resilient. “When we made the collective and started coming to meetings with UNNATI, it improved our practices “, she says. “I wanted to get ahead, I wanted to progress. It was an opportunity and I thought if I join, I can have a better life." Thanks to Radha’s ripple effect, we’re gradually strengthening food security in a region that’s grappling both agricultural and socioeconomic challenges. Today, we celebrate the unsung heroes of India's agricultural landscape: women farmers. 🌾👩🌾 These resilient women contribute over 70% of all agricultural labor, yet often go unrecognized. From sowing to harvesting, they're the backbone of our rural economy. 🌱👩𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 👩🌱 The 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗥𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 was implemented by Lupin Human Welfare & Research Foundation in partnership with Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM) & GIZ India to reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers and promote regenerative agriculture amongst the farmers. AGRA Introduces VALUE4HER Initiative in Ethiopia to Empower Women in Agriculture AGRA has launched the VALUE4HER initiative in #Ethiopia, marking a significant step towards supporting women in #agriculture. This program aims to address challenges faced by Ethiopian women #farmers, such as limited resources, policy gaps, and difficulties accessing credit, ultimately promoting equitable growth. Sara Yirga, President of Women in Coffee Ethiopia, highlighted the initiative’s goal to assist 2,000 women in the agricultural sector through capacity building and loan facilitation. The project focuses on empowering female #entrepreneurs by enhancing market networks and improving access to credit. With women contributing 75% of #farm labor and a significant portion of high-value crop production in Ethiopia, VALUE4HER could have a transformative impact. AGRA plans to onboard 200 women into the platform at an upcoming forum, with a target of expanding to over 9,000 members by 2027. Union Minister Amit Shah launched 'White Revolution 2.0' on Thursday, a comprehensive initiative designed to empower women farmers and generate employment. 🔸The program's main objectives are to increase milk production locally, empower women farmers, strengthening the dairy industry's infrastructure, and increase dairy exports. 🔸Within the first 100 days of the Modi government's third term, three initiatives were implemented, including the programme. 🔸"The dairy industry employs the majority of women; in Gujarat alone, some of them generate business worth Rs 60,000 crore. #RiceToday: Women farmers are pivotal to driving agricultural innovations forward. Studies reveal that extension programs delivered through women's groups lead to significantly higher adoption rates of new technologies. In Eastern Uttar Pradesh in India, researchers used a randomized control trial, to test how Women's Self-Help Groups (WSHGs) can boost varietal awareness and adopt improved rice-wheat varieties. Results show that even non-intervened groups benefit from spillover effects, highlighting the importance of WSHGs for capacity-building programs and tailoring dissemination strategies for maximum impact. It is known that 78 per cent of India’s employed women work in agriculture. As per the Annual Periodic Labour Force Survey, 2021-2022, agriculture has the highest estimated female labour force participation of 62.9 per cent.
