Some people think learning how to create psychological safety as a leader is irrelevant and unimportant. But how you do anything is how you do everything. When you look at this performance, you may think (as I did) how adorable!). But analyze more deeply and you will realize a few more details. First, this performance was the culmination of many Daddy - Daughter hours spent together 💕💕💕. Commitment and consistency. Second, the level of trust of that child running at full speed and jumping into her Dad’s arms, and flipping over and being hoisted up that way says everything about the level of safety present. Third, the little twirl and then the skipping off with his baby girl displays playfulness… allowing his whole humanity to show (Which is probably just as important for him as for his daughter). This small clip is a representation of what it looks like when psychological and emotional safety is present. For some who will say, “Well, what does this have to do with business, leading teams, and running organizations?” I say how you do anything is how you do everything. If you are intentionally cultivating safety in one area that awareness is likely to bleed into all areas of life.
