Russia continues its efforts to black out Ukraine by constantly shelling #energy facilities. They want our hospitals to be engulfed in darkness, our children unable to study, and people to remain without contact with their relatives. This cannot be allowed! That is why Ukraine, now more than ever, needs investments in #cleanenergy, which will ensure energy security and foster economic growth. Join our movement for the future of Ukraine, which is based on a decentralized energy system 🙌

In the face of current challenges and as we look toward post-war recovery, the focus on sustainable generation and recovery becomes paramount for Ukraine. The full integration into European energy markets stands as a critical milestone, not just for economic integration, but as a cornerstone of energy security and resilience. Diversifying energy supply sources and ensuring the reliability of our grids and pipeline systems are essential steps toward safeguarding our nation against future vulnerabilities. Moreover, regulatory predictability is crucial in attracting the necessary investments and fostering an environment of innovation and growth within the energy sector. These elements combined form the bedrock of a strategy aimed at fortifying Ukraine’s energy security. As we navigate these turbulent times, it’s imperative that we keep these objectives in sight, working tirelessly to achieve a future where Ukraine’s energy sector is robust, resilient, flexible, and fully integrated into the European framework. The path ahead is challenging, but with concerted efforts and unwavering commitment, we can ensure the energy security of Ukraine. #EnergySecurity #Ukraine #recovery #war

Mykyta Klochko from the Chernihiv region personally experienced the consequences of the lack of energy supply during the Russian occupation. The centralized power supply, which depended not only on lighting and communications but also on heating the home, disappeared already in the first days of the Russian invasion. This experience led Mykyta to make an important decision - to become an energy engineer in the future and work to strengthen Ukraine's energy security. How important energy independence and energy efficiency are for Ukrainian youth and Mykyta in particular, you can read in the essay: "The energy consciousness of every consumer strengthens Ukraine's energy security" via the link 👉 https://lnkd.in/g3J8TMke #energysecurity #youthcontest #winner #contest #essay #energy #youth

It is an honour to be supporting #DTEK – Ukraine’s largest private energy company – at this week’s #UkraineRecoveryConference in #Berlin. #Russia is attacking Ukraine’s energy system like never before. It has now destroyed over 90% of DTEK’s thermal generation capacity, and half of Ukraine’s total. If Ukraine’s electricity system fails and ‘the lights go out’, the consequences this winter will be catastrophic. They would likely include a humanitarian crisis and a mass migration ‒ centred in #Europe. Please read our short report, #Ukraine: 7 lessons from history, that must not be forgotten at this particularly precarious time for Ukraine and democracy. https://lnkd.in/gAQvUqGe

📄 New Working Paper Ukraine’s Electricity Sector: Urgency and Resilience in a Time of War Ukraine's electricity system faces severe challenges from persistent Russian attacks, which Moscow has significantly intensified in 2024. As Ukraine prepares for the upcoming winter, it is crucial to develop a resilient next-generation electricity system. In their new working paper, Ken Medlock, senior director of Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy Center for Energy Studies, and Gabriel Collins, fellow at the Center for Energy Studies, outline the current challenges, short-term solutions, and long-term strategies for Ukraine's energy sector. Today, Ukraine is experiencing the most severe energy crisis in its history. According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, more than 11 billion (!) dollars are needed to restore the country's energy system, which has been destroyed by the enemy during the full-scale war. The enemy actively targets our country's "green" energy and attempts to destroy Ukraine's prospects for energy independence, security, and a healthy ecology. With the onset of military actions, almost all wind power stations in the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv regions found themselves in the front line or occupied zones from the first days. 80% of wind generation is today either out of order or captured. Preliminary estimates indicate that the losses from destroyed, damaged, or stolen equipment of wind farms exceed 50 million euros. Our project is an attempt to counter the energy blackmail by Russia, which is trying by all means to destroy our energy sector and keep Ukraine dependent on imported fossil energy sources.

Should Ukraine build new NPP units? I have always shared the opinion that Ukraine will not achieve the goals of energy transition and have sufficient capacities for the economy development without an increase in RES generation, construction of new NPP units and creation of modern manoeuvrable power generation and storage systems. Ukraine has lost about 16 GW of generation capacities as a result of the Russian aggression. One should also take into account that the service life of most thermal generation facilities has long expired. As the ex-Minister of Energy Ivan Plachkov aptly noted, our energy industry resembles a museum of technologies of the 1960s-1980s, like the Cuban car stock, demonstrating the achievements of the US car-making industry of the pre-revolutionary period. https://lnkd.in/eJsvSv8k
