Lisa Su, the current CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), is a prime example of a leader who steered her company towards massive growth. Under her leadership, AMD's stock price skyrocketed over 100x, making her a legend in the tech industry.
The Challenge:
When Lisa Su took the helm in 2014, AMD was struggling. The company was lagging behind its competitor, Intel, in both market share and technological innovation.
The Strategy:
Some key elements of Lisa Su's successful strategy:
Shifting Focus: Su recognized the growing importance of graphics processing units (GPUs) and directed AMD's resources towards developing powerful and competitive GPUs for both gaming and artificial intelligence applications.
Embracing New Technology: She championed the use of new chip manufacturing techniques like chiplets, which allowed AMD to create high-performance processors at competitive prices.
Building Partnerships: Su fostered strong relationships with key industry players like Microsoft and Sony, ensuring AMD's technology was integrated into their latest gaming consoles.
Employee Focus: She fostered a culture of collaboration and innovation within AMD, empowering employees and valuing their contributions.
The Outcome:
Lisa Su's strategic vision and leadership resulted in a remarkable turnaround for AMD. The company became a major competitor in the CPU and GPU markets, and its stock price soared, exceeding expectations.
Beyond the Numbers:
Lisa Su's story is more than just a financial success. It highlights the importance of:
Visionary Leadership: The ability to see potential and chart a new course.
Adaptability: Embracing change and capitalizing on new technologies.
Collaboration: Building strong partnerships and fostering a culture of teamwork.
Lisa Su's journey serves as an inspiration for leaders in all industries, demonstrating the power of strategic thinking, innovation, and a people-centric approach.
Leadership is not just about effectiveness, accountability and responsibility but about humility and groundedness.
Thank you Linas Beliūnas for this powerful and thought provoking post on how transformational the values of leadership can positively impact a leader’s principles and beliefs about their worth and their ability.
CEM Lisa Su’s mindful response to the interviewer’s inherently naive question neither has any surprise or reproach but stems from her humble confidence in her abilities. She has no desire to prove her worth or position to the interviewer. Most of all she believes that leadership is all about service and allowing work to speak rather than allowing words to express a leader’s worth and position.
An inspiring example of leadership at its finest- believing and living the qualities of excellence with humility in personal as much as professional life, and including the essence of those values into ones life philosophy.

AMD CEO Lisa Su was asked if she spoke English during a racing event 😳
Her response? Very humble:
I love how Lisa Su said I'm "WITH" AMD and not "I'm the CEO of AMD".
Humility and leadership at its finest.

John Chambers overcame dyslexia and became a leading CEO (how does he actually analyze cross-functional risks etc?) then there is Antonio Neri an immigrant from Argentina also leading the field.. and what they do well? FRIENDSHIPS > America is built my immigrants & very simple individuals 👍 👍
Truth is the people who work the hardest and therefore have the higher intellectual capacity are immigrants; everybody else is just becoming "specialized" and keep the same roles or similar with little to no real growth .. that's why immigrants make it far and you are still thinking what you are missing here 😄
Others like the sales guys, or the ones who are just playing the waiting game who get promoted simply because they stayed with the same company for years; so the average board member assumes this is the most capable person to lead only because of their years of service; but that only tells me they have only used a VERY limited part of their brain. This people do mostly repetitive tasks, same systems, same structure like a broken record selling the same products for years (some acquisitions here and there but still the same product suites). Where is the growth or where is any real international experience there?
Of course understanding one company in over 10 years becomes "extremely easy" ... that's just quite boring after a while isn't it? How about the rest of the world, how about other industries, other sectors, other global strategies.. that is a far distance to reach for many 😄

It takes a lot of courage to disrupt. From my experience, it’s difficult for a company to stay on top of the market, and downhill trends are hard to correct. The exception to that rule has been Hewlett Packard Enterprise, under the leadership of Antonio Neri. I applaud Antonio’s dedication to building a clear, strategic vision – and dreaming big enough to execute on it. Antonio is a competitor, turned business partner, and a friend who I trust with my life. I believe HPE will become a top AI leader in the industry with Antonio at the helm. Great to reflect further on why with Danny Fortson at The Sunday Times:

This post is a tribute to the incredible friendships I've found among my colleagues at #VMware.
To those who have left VMware, remember that your contributions have helped build a strong foundation for the company. Your efforts have laid the groundwork for others to continue advancing and innovating in your name. Your legacy lives on in the culture and values you helped shape, and your impact will be felt for years to come.
For those still at VMware recognize the opportunity before you. Embrace the legacy left by those who have gone before you, and let it motivate you to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation and excellence. Each day, strive to build upon the foundation they have established, knowing that your efforts are contributing to a legacy of success that will inspire future generations.

Great post below from Alec Bean , owner of Gray & Creech Office Solutions and also a member of the Xerox Dealer Council. Read his thoughts on our recent announcement, our innovative solutions and our plans to grow the channel! #xerox
Business technology solutions that centers around Imaging, Security, and IT.
As a member of the Xerox Dealer Council I can tell you no one at Xerox management is celebrating layoffs. I have learned a lot in the past few years about Xerox and how they’re repositioning themselves. It’s not easy for a company the size of Xerox to change course, but I have seen first hand the enthusiasm of its employees as these new innovations start building traction. Gray & Creech has been able to showcase some of Xerox’s newest innovations, like Workplace Cloud, Workflow Central, RPA, CareAR, with more innovations coming out in 2024. Keep innovating Xerox, Gray & Creech will keep showcasing. #innovation#grayandcreech#xeroxhelpshttps://lnkd.in/edYJPNcq
