In Q3 2022, works were initiated on the upgrade of The Carpentaria Highway in NT – a vital route to serve the Beetaloo Sub-basin, Borroloola and key industries. Faced with a significant challenge due to the unavailability of local rocks, with the nearest quarry over 300km away, Global Synthetics Pty Ltd addressed this challenge by introducing a sustainable and cost-effective solution using Miracell® Geocell.
Miracell® Geocell, constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), proved to be an ideal alternative to traditional dumped rocks due to the following:
◾ Miracell® Geocell effectively compartmentalises material;
◾ Mitigates hydraulic and wind-borne stresses;
◾ Supplied in a folded configuration to reduce transportation costs;
◾ Swiftly expands on-site, providing stabilisation for soils;
◾ Suits various applications like slope and channel protection, load support, and earth retention.
The adoption of Miracell® Geocell not only resulted in significant cost savings but also showcased several sustainability benefits. It reduced the project's carbon footprint by minimising transportation needs, met project demands, promoted soil retention, and allows vegetation to thrive.
For those grappling with floodway challenges in remote areas without quarry access, Global Synthetics offers a tailored solution.
