Hard clay pan landscapes in the Narrabri region get a boost thanks to an enforcement action by the Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR). Northern Slopes Landcare Association is delivering the project which aims to re-establish vegetation and improve soil moisture on difficult-to-manage land on local properties. Initial funding for the program comes from an enforceable undertaking (EU) between NRAR and Boggabri Coal Operations Pty Ltd, which allegedly took surface water without a licence and collected it in temporary and permanent storages between early 2019 and April 2022. Under the terms of the EU, the mine owners must: 🌊 Install new water meters which automatically record water-use data. 🌊 Purchase new software and implement an improved water balance modelling program. 🌊 Report to NRAR on surface water take four times a year until 2027. 🌊 Pay more than $54,000 to compensate for surface water taken unlawfully, and a further $15,000 to cover NRAR's investigation costs. 🌊 Contribute $10,000 to a community project with a water management focus in the local area, and 🌊 Undertake consultation with the local indigenous community about the impact of past and future water take on Aboriginal communities and where practical and reasonable, assist in promoting and protecting cultural values and practices in the area affected by the mining operations. https://lnkd.in/gTBNH-R6 https://lnkd.in/gTBNH-R6 Landcare NSW Turlough Guerin FAIA GAICD Lisa Stockley Alex Bowlay

Brownfield, Greenfield, Green Belt & Grey Belt. These terms are being discussed a lot but what do they all mean? Brownfield: Previously developed land that is not currently in use, often former industrial or commercial sites, which may be contaminated but have potential for redevelopment. Greenfield: Undeveloped land, typically agricultural or forested areas, that has not been previously built on and is considered for new development. Green Belt: Areas of open land surrounding urban regions, designated to prevent urban sprawl, maintain the character of rural communities, and provide recreational spaces. Grey Belt: A relatively new term referring to land that is between brownfield and greenfield, such as underused urban areas that are not fully abandoned but are also not efficiently utilised. #newhomebuilding #newhomes

Home builders and developers can utilise the offsite approach towards Biodiversity Net Gains in 2 ways: 1. When you're at the mercy of the red line boundaries and it's not viable to uplift the mandated 10% increase in Biodiversity, you can look for land in the same/neighboring NCA, and look to rewild these sites instead. 2. When you have smaller plots of land, that don't seem to hold much value for developments, or are being kept as an investment for the future, you can lease these to developers who are looking for offsite solutions for their own developments. This can commercial viability and bring passive income for at least 31 years. In Q3 2022, works were initiated on the upgrade of The Carpentaria Highway in NT – a vital route to serve the Beetaloo Sub-basin, Borroloola and key industries. This cannot be rightly done by panic threatening increases if the planet comes first. One thing is certain, we better get to sustainable shifting and pay the costly accountability gratefully.
